Cantina de San Angel outdoor seating to be lunch only?

This isn't confirmed, but I've got some info to suggest that the outdoor seating area on the pier (http://www.wdwmagic.com/Dining/Cantina-de-San-Angel/News.htm) will only be available during lunch. This would make sense, as the seating on the pier may well intrude on the IllumiNations fall out space. During dinner service, the indoor area would be available as a table service location.

In spite of safety reasons, I can imagine a lot of guests' feelings might be hurt if a large, prime Illuminations viewing area was closed every night.

In hindsight, it would have been a good idea to have constructed a water-level river-walk around the entire circumference of the lagoon to provide more viewing areas and relieve congestion on the main promenade.

Wait, I'm confused... is this a CS place or a TS place? I thought it was going to be the same thing but just redone!?!

It will be event space but will be open to guests when no events are booked (not too often). This is how several other prime locations around World Showcase Lagoon operate including Italy and United Kingdom.

Both. Think of the arrangement at Yak and Yeti in AK where there is a large table service dining room with an outdoor counter service window off to the side. La Cantina is being re-modeled similar to that.

Not sure how I feel about all these new restaurants being both TS and QS. I understand its more efficient use of the space, but if I'm taking the time for a nice TS meal at WDW, I like to enjoy the atmosphere. I just don't see it working out that way when you have both side by side or changing halfway through the afternoon (like the "Be Our Guest" restaurant will supposedly do).

The switch from CS to TS makes a lot of sense to be accountants. During the day...get them in, give them food, get them out. During the evening...charge more for pretty much the same product with a location on the water. Then charge even more to be outside.

I think I'm getting kind of confused. Could someone explain it a little better? (how the entire day would work)

This is what I'm gathering:

TS Lunch - Outdoor & Indoor
CS Lunch - Indoor

TS Dinner - Indoor
CS Dinner - Indoor

This is actually a very good idea. Watching illuminations even during regular season has become some much of an a$$ whip that I don't even do it unless I have a late ADR at R&C. Increasing the water front viewing area even by 50% would go a long way to fixing this.

I don't think it is a problem unless they don't execute it properly. It worked fine at Restaurantosaurus until they moved the breakfast out of there.

Agreed! It appears they have made the decision to close it to regular diners after lunch but they are not ready to announce how it will be used at night. Special events sounds right to me though.

Weird, I'm also confused. Why have two table services in one pavilion that is serving pretty much the same food. I know France and Japan has two table services but the menus are different. France has more traditional and upscale food upstairs and in Japan one is hibachi. I think it should just be counter service.

Given how busy the San Angel Inn is every night, I think there's probably enough demand to warrant another table service location.

Ah, thank you!

As for those who think the food will be the same... isn't Yak 'n Yeti's food quite different inside and out? I've never eaten there myself but I heard there's a big difference between the CS food and the TS food. (Again, I don't know... but that's what I've heard!) Maybe it will be the same way here. Maybe what's served for TS will be different enough from the CS option!?! Who knows!?!

The final part of the puzzle, back when this whole demolition and reconstruction was just rumors swirling around a year or two ago was that once the lagoon-side Table Service restaurant opened, the San Angel inside would close for a rennovation and reopen as a Signature restaurant. (Whether that means a two-DDP-credit place like Brown Derby, or an upscale restaurant that doesn't take the DDP at all like Bistro de Paris, I don't know)

The tequilla bar and the Cantina demolition and reconstruction into a dual TS/CS place have all taken place per those original rumors...

I think that would be a great idea to turn San Angel into a better resturaunt! As long as they do something with the food! There is probably not a better themed place in all of DWorld. But the food is in my opinion the worst place in DWorld. They don't even have fresh chips and salsa for goodness sake! something you can get at any mom and pop mexican resturaunt in every town in the south for way less money. Lets see it happen! We want some real fresh mexican cuisine. Not the Taco Bell version!!

Then it should work like the Yak and Yeti with both CS and TS so you won't have to deprive the pavilion a CS at night. Plus it would be cheaper for your wallet instead of being like the overpriced San Angel Inn.

So the San Angel Inn is getting even more expensive? The food better be better .
