Can't decide which resort? Help!

I am a newbie. Planning our first WDW trip April 2012 for hubby, daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter 5, and grandson 2. I am struggling if we should stay at the POFQ and get 2 standard rooms or go for the Contemporary or Polynesian and share a room. My concern is one room will be too cramped and overwhelming for 4 adults and 2 little ones. Plus grandpa and I won't have anytime to unwind and get quiet time. However the monorail, pools, dining choices all look so much better at the deluxe resorts. So for those that have stayed at these resorts - What do you think - Go for the convenience of the monorail and nicer resort or stay in 2 separate rooms? I am stressing trying to make a decision!:dazzle:

Well you have a few options depending on your budget. With 6 people (4 adults, 2 kids) you could stay at the All Star Music in a family suite, get two rooms at a value or moderate, get a cabin at the Fort Wilderness, or splurge and get a villa at one of the deluxe resorts. Since the kids are pretty young, I would suggest being close to the park that you will be at most, which if I had to guess would be Magic Kingdom. This being the case I would suggest either staying at Fort Wilderness (you can take a boat to/from Magic Kingdomm) or Bay Lake Tower (you can walk over to Magic Kingdom and they are on the monorail). If I were you I would do the cabins at Fort Wilderness, I have never stayed here, however it seems like it would work for your family. The one room has a bed and a set of bunk beds, and the other room has a bed. There is also a kitchen, deck, grill, and a good amount of room so you won't be on top of one another. It is also over $100 cheaper per night than staying at Bay Lake Tower, and it's cheaper than getting 2 rooms at a moderate. I think that the family suites at All Star Music would be too tight of a space, but thats just my opinion. Hope this helped!

Six people of three generations in one room....that sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. At least cause for stress.

The number of family fights I've seen at the world! Holidays are intense. There's adrenaline, you are in each other's company most of theb time, with different moods, wishes, needs.

Sure, the Poly and Contemporary can't be beat for location, but that doesn't mean the other hotels are out in the middle of nowhere.
Besides, the premises of Port Orleans are really quite pretty. Fort Wilderness too is a lovely place, something special.

There aren't many single rooms (any?) on property that would accommodate 6 people. And in that situation, you'd only have one bathroom. For a party that large...yeesh. Getting out to the parks in the morning will take forever. If you can't afford 2 rooms in a deluxe, I'd definitely suggest 2 in a moderate or 2 in a Value. I wouldn't suggest the Value Suites; I think they're more appropriate for families with 3 or 4 little kids. 2 individual rooms will afford a little more quiet time for everyone. And I wouldn't suggest the Fort Wilderness cabins for the same reasons.

Something else to think about - you can find websites where people who are members of Disney's timeshare program - the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) - are renting the use of their membership (their "points") if they know they're not going to be going on vacation this year. Renting their "points" and getting a 2BR Villa in one of the DVC resorts would be much less expensive than booking a room that big direct from Disney.

Speaking of DVC, there are two resorts - Old Key West & Saratoga Springs - that are technically ALL DVC resorts, as opposed to resorts like the Boardwalk or the Wilderness Lodge where they have a traditional hotel and a wing or block of rooms designated for DVC members. But even though Old Key West & Saratoga Springs are all DVC resorts, WDW still owns a percentage of these resorts and rents out the rooms if they are unbooked. AND WDW often has special promotions specifically for these two resorts. Aside from looking up potential deals on websites like mousesavers.com, OR using a travel agent like Kingdom Konsultants, you could call Disney direct and ask if they're running any special with those resorts. No promises, but two rooms in these resorts may be about the same as two rooms in a moderate, the rooms will be bigger, they'll have kitchenettes, more amenities...it's worth a phone call.

I would stay in seperate rooms...Even the closest family knows that you need time by yourself. Not to mention what PP's have said about having only one bathroom.

stay in separate rooms as close to the Magic Kingdom as you can afford. The moderate resorts are very nice. Check to see if you qualify for any other discounts (i.e. military, aarp, aaa etc.) lots of deals out there if you look on Mousesavers.com Renting from a dvc member is a good idea too, but be careful once you book it can be very hard to impossible to cancel it.
