Candlelight Processional Dining Package

Please excuse some background information as I head toward my question. I am generally a one day at a time WDW visitor. I have stayed for two week trips several times, as well as two or three day stays, but the majority of my Disney World trips consist of open-to-close single day trips. Ah, the joys of annual pass living! As my daughter is about to embark on her first year of college, my wife and I would like to take her to the World for the entire week before Christmas when she comes home for her break from school (if we do this, it will be a surprise to her).

My question involves the Candlelight Procession Dining Package. We have seen this show several times, but always as standby guests (spur of the moment, single day tripper, remember?). We do not want to miss the show because of crowding, but I am not a fan of dining packages. Would it be fairly safe to go standby, or should I go ahead and attempt to buy a dining package instead?

We want to make this trip special for her, as we did not expect to go back to WDW during her college years, and this show is one of her favorites. I realize that answers to this question will involve a bit of conjecture, but I value and trust the opinions of “y’all” regarding Disney related matters. Thanks in advance for your help. :xmas:

You know what, you’re right! I think that I will chance it, and attempt to go standby. Sorry to have troubled everyone with my self-centered quandary.

No problem big guy. You’re a good dude and all, but we have to deal with more important matters, such as the D23 event that yielded no useful information whatsoever, and armchair Imagineering regarding Spaceship Earth narrators. Now shoo, scat!

Even though RSOXGUY is being very attentive to your question, I thought I'd chime in.:)

We go every year at Christmas time, usually the 5th -15th or whatever that Sat-Following Tuesday is. (This year we're going 10th-20th). The standby line for the Processional is usually nuts. People line up for the next show sometime before the nearest show is letting people in. If you wait until showtime, sometimes you can get a seat in the back. But if you really want to sit and see the show I would go with the package. We did it one year about 14-15 years ago and had second row seats for Phyllicia Rashad (sorry if I butchered the spelling). It was awesome. Plus, restaurants are crazy packed at this time so it's nice to have someplace already set to eat.

Every time we go into Epcot I try to catch a different part as we go by. When the kids are older maybe we'll actually sit:ROFLOL:.

Have a great time!

Rsoxguy gave you some really bad advice. :D If you want to do CP, especially on the week before Christmas, purchasing the dining package is all but essential. Unlike the Fantasmic! dining packages, where the will only sell a portion of the seats they will, and often do, sell the American Gardens theater to capacity for CP. If the CP is a critical facet of your trip you will need to step out of your comfort zone and reserve it. If it is not, and you do not mind waiting a couple of hours or more in a line that can stretch past Germany, possibly for nothing, then you can wing it.

Thanks Master Yoda. You are both a gentleman, and a scholar. I will rethink my decision in a serious way and speak to my wife tonight when she gets home from work. I truly appreciate your input. :sohappy:

Thanks to you also marcriss. I was starting to think that this thread was invisible. As I stated above, the advice given thus far will be considered this evening when my wife and I are together (I made the resort reservation without her knowledge, but thankfully, she thought it was a good idea). I appreciate your kindness in responding.

If you want a seat, you need the dining package. Especially to fit a few of you together. Most of the late people I saw squeezed in when we were there were all singles thrown hither dither and yon. And even with the package, you need to get there fairly early to get good seats. At least when we were there.

Don't listen to rsoxguy - what does he know anyway!

Book a package or plan on either lining up 2 hours before the performance. We've done it twice, booking the lunch pakage at Biergarten both times. It was definitely worth it!

I will, in all probability, heed your advice upon conferencing with my lovely wife later today. For the record, I appreciate your use of the term "hither dither and yon" even more than your advice. I shall attempt to incorporate that terminology tonight in my conversation with my wife, just to see her reaction!

Thanks for the information. By the way, I'm posting a little gift for you and your booted foot (feet?).

I will agree with the other posters and say that you SHOULD buy a Candlelight Package especially since this is your daughters last trip before starting college - it will definately be memorable!

Hope you have a wonderful time :0)

If I'm not mistaken you also get seating for the fireworks show.

It's not seating, but admission to the area at Showcase Plaza. Great view of IRoE from there!

I looked this up on the Disney website, and it provides all the more incentive for us. We decided that we are going to get a dining package for the show. We haven't chosen the restaurant yet, but we are settled on doing this within the next couple of days as we make a schedule for the week. Thanks to everyone who has offered advise. It helped greatly.
