Cancelled fireworks

Just curious. Had 2 nites of heavy rain and thunderstorms and was wondering if the fireworks still get set off. I heard that they are required to set them off every nite for safety. Just looking for some more elaboration and clarification

Only ever seen them delayed, not canceled. And I've seen Wishes in a deluge (from Contemporary, thankfully). I've experienced rain delays up to an hour for IllumiNations and Wishes. Only ever seen Fantasmic cancelled outright. Doubt they can launch during t-storms though.

In all the times I have been to Disney, I've only experienced a canceled show once. They are the exception in extreme circumstances, not the norm.
I would imagine it would require a persistent storm with lightning for the hour following the fireworks. They run if they can.

Last May, they actually started Wishes early (night of the 2015 24-hour party actually) due to an approaching storm.

Disneyland on the other hand cancels all the time. Someone sneezes and they call it too windy.

Last night the fireworks were delayed for over an hour at Magic Kingdom, but Orlando experienced an insane storm with excessive amounts of lightning. Typically, the delay is actually for Guest safety and has nothing to do with the show itself.

We had another decent lightning storm come through about an hour or so ago again this evening. I would assume the shows were postponed again tonight as well. It let up about 15-20 minutes ago her in Dr. Phillips, which we are about 5 miles from property.

We had a significant rain and thunder storm during our last trip (May 2016). They were delayed by maybe 10-15 minutes at Epcot, but then went full ahead. Rain and thunder was still very significant during the show itself.

Thunderstorms generally have no effect on the performance of a show unless the show is unable to be loaded in a timely or safe manner.

If a show is loaded but has to be cancelled for some reason, it would make no sense to unload everything since that show will be performed anyway the next night.

I don't know of a time when a special event based show was cancelled and had to be unloaded due to Wishes being scheduled for the next night. The special show would just be performed when able later in the night. I do know of a time that a show started, was stopped for safety reasons and then resumed later in the night.

Wind can be an issue but it's easy to shed cues which would cause problems if high winds are present.

We've had a delay of about 45 minutes before. It was a very heavy thunderstorm. We also had a dessert party that night, but it all worked out.

Last night the Star Wars fireworks were canceled then they shot them off half an hour after the park was closed because yes they have to fire them once loaded no matter what. Same with fantasmic they shot off all the pyro from fantasmic around 9 pm after the park closed.

Yep that's crazy they have to do that and sucks for those that missed them but I had heard that before too. Thanks for the update on the ones cancelled last night. ;)

Shells pretty much have to be launched eventually if loaded. When that happens is down to several factors.

Wishes last night was very nice once the storm had passed. And the storm itself was spectacular:
