canal around Epcot?

kind of curious what the purpose of the moat/canal that goes around Epcot proper and even darts up into the parking area...

The canals were put in so they can float the pieces of Small World from MK to Epcot when they decide to move it.

If they would sail people on boats around WS on the canal, they could have their EPCOT Small World...

Also, the canal predates EPCOT. It was dug to water the orange groves that stood there.

They weren't there in 1969, so unless they put in orange groves after Disney purchased the land then those canals were built for Epcot.
