No, you can't just switch your home resort. You have purchased a real estate interest in SSR. If you wish to have AKV as your home resort, you must purchase a real estate interest (points) in AKV. You can sell your SSR points, but if you haven't had them that long, you would probably loose money.

Sorry, no, you can't switch. You are actually a part-owner of Saratoga Springs.

Think of it this way....if you buy a house, you can't go back to the realtor three months later and tell him/her that you want the house down the street instead. Well, you can, but you'd have to sell the house you bought and buy the house down the street. :)

You can still use your points at AKL at the 7 month window. Why not stick with your SSR points for the time being, and just use them at AKV. If you find it hard to book there at 7 months, you can always consider adding on at AKV, and selling your SSR contract then.

OK then. Im a little bummed. Oh well. Thanks.:(

Every DVC resort has pros and cons. AKL was my favorite resort before it became DVC, and I'm REALLY going to try to use points there when possible, but SSR is a beautiful resort, and if you like spending time at Pleasure Island and DTD, to be within walking distance is awesome. Ditto OKW. And of course, WLV has the proximity/ferry to MK, and BCV & BWV are within walking distance/ferry to Epcot and Studios. AKLV will be a great getaway, especially when you have a savannah view, but that's the main draw. No walking distance to anything, you gotta drive or bus. Nothing wrong with it, but for people who like to be close to "the action" whatever the action is, having animals outside your window might not be as much of a draw as it would be for people like you or me.

It's not a question of finances. A time share is something you own (even though with DVC they eventually get your deed back from you, until that time, you own it). Just like someone else said, you can't buy a house then tell your real estate agent, "no, I want this house instead," without selling the house you already bought.

And you're hardly "stuck." You might not always be able to get into the AK Vilas, but that doesn't mean you'll NEVER be able to get into them. "Home resort" just means you can book 4 months sooner there then at any of the other resorts. Wilderness Lodge seems to be one of the two most popular DVC resorts (the other being Beach Club Villas) and I managed to get a studio for a week without much fuss.

Truth be told, there are a lot of people who weren't crazy about the AKL, because it felt like you weren't part of the Disney action. Me, personally, I loved it, but for people who want to be in a monorail resort, or walking distance/ferry ride to Epcot/MGM, or a walk or ferry ride to DTD, being able to see live animals outside your balcony just wasn't so important to them. While I won't be susprised if AKV sells out before SSR does, it still doesn't mean that you'll never be able to stay there.

I'm guessing from your profile that your parents bought into DVC, not you, right?

You're not stuck and you shouldn't be bummed. Be happy that your family invested in your vacations for many years to come!
.....and while you're checking out all the DVC resorts, try the Boardwalk. It's where we have most of our points and we love it.

Welcome home!

Yes my parents did. I just wanted the benefits of a home resort. Our family wants to book ASAP and we cant do that with any resort but the home. I just came back from the beach club and it was awesome. I want to do either BW or AKL. It depends on if my parents are going or not.
