Can you switch a DVC reservation???

We are making a reservation for OKW for the first week of January 09 in a few weeks. We REALLY want to try and get a room at the Boardwalk Villas. In order to do so, since we are using my friends parents points, we would not be able to try and make that reservation until November 1st. Is it possible to make the reservation at their home resort, OKW, and then call back on November 1st and try and see if Boardwalk has availability???

I'm not quite sure why you would need to wait until NOV 1st to try for BWV. If OKW is your home resort you would only have to wait until the 7 month window opens to try BWV. If you are traveling in January that would be around the end of June.

If you are waiting on USE YEAR points, you don't need to. You can make reservations based on the points you will have during your travel dates.

Your friend's parents will need to make the reservation now and then will have to change the reservation at the 7 month window (based on availability).

They may have borrowed there allotment of points for There 08 use year and november 1st is when they may dip into November of 09's points.
To answer Your question, Yes, You make a reservation Now in OKW just to be sure of having a place to sleep, always important when You are vacationing. LOL , then when They have the points, they would call for the boardwalk and just cancel the OKW. It takes more points to stay at Boardwalk then it does at OKW and that May be why they can't do it right now. It just may be tough to get in to the boardwalk with short notice. We were lucky enough to get into a studio at boardwalk for September just last week, so It does not hurt to try. If they say it is not available, ask to be put on the waiting list, just in case someone cancels there and they will offer it to You if You are next on the wait list. I hope this helps, either way, have a great time when You get to whichever resort You guys end up in!

She should be able to make reservations for Jan 09 @ BWV in june of this year, regardless of when her points actually hit the account.

Dvc will allow you to make reservations based on future points (if borrowing) that you have not recieved yet.

For example, if her use year is NOVEMBER and she has already used her nov 2007 points (that expire oct 31st 2008) and nov 2008 points (that expire oct 31st 2009), she can still book a non-home resort at the 7-month window using borrowed points (nov 2009) that she doesn't have yet...or won't be available until november 2008 (Nov 2008 if borrowed).

I hope this makes sense.

As others have said, your friend will be able to try to get into the Boardwalk during June for a Jan 09 trip. Even though she (or her family) doesn't have the points NOW, the DVC reps will be able to see that they're coming, and make reservations based on that.

Thanks for all the info guys...I have passed all your good advice on to my friend to talk to his mother about. She is going to call to make the reservation on June 1. I have no problem with staying @ OKW, expecially since they are not making us pay anything for using their points but...Boardwalk is our favorite place in all of WDW! Being able to walk/stumble back to our rooms after watching some games at ESPN or singing our hearts out at Jellyrolls would be sublime! Here's to hoping!
