I'm hoping you guys know what haggle is!

If you buy direct from Disney - can you haggle on price or incentives - like free APs?

What about from resale - are sellers willing to negotiat on price?

Sorry for so many questions - I just like to know everything before I jump in!

SURE you can haggle! They'll just say no!

I kid, I kid because I love. If you're buying direct from Disney, there's no wiggle room. They'll offer some kind of promotion (they often offer a temporary price drop, like $15 off a point, or they may offer a one time use of "bonus points"). But that's it. They're firm on their offer because they know it will get sold.

Despite the negatives involved in DVC (namely, the deed reverts back to Disney eventually), Disney knows they have something everyone wants, and they're not about to start haggling or offering better promos than what they're currently offering as long as people are buying. If you don't opt into it, they're not worried. They will sell out eventually, and until then, it just means more rooms to rent out nightly.

Resales are another matter in theory, and you will see some people drop their asking price if nobody's biting. But it's still a crap shoot. The only people who seem to have problems selling their interest in DVC are people who bought so many points intially, most people can't afford to buy them at any price offered. People selling small amounts of points (under 100) usually get snapped up quickly. And no matter what their price is, factor in closing costs, as the resales are usually done through a third party.

Another consideration with re-sales. The DVC company retains first right of purchase on any offer for sale. So, if you negotiate the price lower than Disney considers reasonable, they'll buy the deal you've negotiated and you get nothing for your efforts.

I recently got the brochure from the Timeshare Store [a sponsor here] and it provides a lot of good information on what to be careful of in the resale market, even if you don't purchase through them.

I'm not sure if you know this, but just to let you know, their promotion right now is $1,500 off SSR.

Also, I talked to a DVC rep today and she said as of March 5 (or something around the beg. of March, not sure exactly), there will be a price increase. And she said you have to buy a minimum of 160 points instead of 150! So that's just a warning.
