Can we negotiate incentives and points question

As we continue to pull all the info together before making the "big" purchase
we thought of some questions that maybe some of you in DVC land could answer.

DH would like to know how the points translate to a hotel stay. DH wants to make sure over the long term after paying in full for DVC and then the maintenance fees for 30 plus years that we are not loosing $$. We are looking at what we have spent on the last 2 trips but do you loose value if you use points for hotel stays?

Also..

I read a thread not long ago where the couple finally signed their contract after agreeing to the incentives in the contract. It made it seem that they "negotiated" their incentives? Anyone ever heard of this? What would you possible have to renegotiate in a DVC contract?

DH wishes we could get some 2 season passes out of the deal since we are about to drop some coin but I don't think they will go for it. Anyone ever "negotiated their terms? Maybe the current economy would speak to that then again maybe not because DVC seems to be doing fine. What do you all think?

I dont think its negotiable and I bought initially 220 at BWV and added twice there to 275 and jsut bought another 100 in BLT. You get wahtever incentive they are offering but its noth negotiable. We have though on our BWV purchase certainly made back again and again what we spent and anticipate doing that at BLT also. We get the opportunity to buy annual passes at about $100 off the regualr price and once we've gotten that we also buy the 20% off dining discount now caleld I think Tables in Wonderland which is aailalbe to annual passholders, so we maximize our discounts. Its well worth the money if you like this type of accomodations as we do. :sohappy:

Not quite sure where you're coming from here. The point charts should give you a basis for comparison. A Savanna View Studio at the Animal Kingdom Villas is 13 points per weeknight. If you take your annual dues plus a share of what you're paying up front for the points, and compare to the rack rates it should give you a decent comparison.

When you use the phrase "hotel stays", I hope you aren't planning on buying DVC points and using them for stays at non-DVC locations like the Polynesian, Grand Floridian or Yacht Club. Those destinations are not part of DVC and are technically considered trades outside of the program. The economics of doing so are very poor. For example, during the same night that the AKV Studio I mentioned above costs 13 points, a Lagoon View room at the Poly will run 56 points per night. Pretty much the same accommodation, but 4x the cost.

DVC does not negotiate terms. Good economy or bad, you will not be able to entice them into giving a better offer than the standard slate of incentives. DVC sells hundreds of contracts per month and drawing a proverbial line in the sand will only prove frustrating for you.

There is an offer available now to Disney Visa cardholders for 2 free annual passes if you put 15% of the purchase on the Visa card. But taking that incentive will disqualify you for other cash discounts or a complimentary Disney Cruise.

As for negotiations and incentives....no you can't negotiate as you would for a house purchase, but there are periodic incentive packages offered, and possibly your best break is purchase while on site rather than remote. There are discounts offered for purchase "on the spot" which would make a trip to the world advisable is you plan to go forward. Meeting face to face also helps in the understanding and working through various scenarios like you are doing here. You shouldn't sign if you aren't fully comfortable in understanding what you are providing.

Perfect! exactly what I needed to know! DVC only sent me the break down of point for BLT AND AKL . I have no way of comparing "hotel stays" so your feedback is very appreciated!

Ok this helps knowing as well! I agree maximizing is the way to go! I did not know about the tables in wonderland discount! Thank You!

It's been a while since our tour so maybe this would be the best option! We are trying to get down there in May for 4 nights so that maybe the best thing!

Thank You All Very Much for your feedback! I know I asked some questions that seem odd but I this board seems like a safe and unbiased place to do that so all your info is again greatly appreciated.

One other thing...if you do the tour on your visit (maybe during a mid afternoon break from the parks) you can enjoy the "special" fastpasses given. So do it early in your stay.
