Can this even be considered a rumor?

As I'm sitting on the floor in line for test track because of inclement weather, I overhear a castmember telling another guest that "this ride may not be here next year." I know Test Track doesn't have the best track record, but I can't imagine them replacing it within the next year. Is this the usual "cast member rubbish" or is there some type of validity to this?

Its been rumored it will get a Cars overlay/reboot/change. Its very possible Cars or some other theme change will happen, including possibly changes to the ride. The entire ride going away? Not going to happen.

Also, as soon as someone says something, its a rumor. The trick is to know which ones are credible.

I hope test track doesnt go anywhere! I think we would of herd some more chatter on this had it at all been valid.

That being said, I wouldnt put it past Disney to take one of their E-ticket thrill rides and dumb it down to make it more "family friendly"

There has been chatter. Quite a bit, actually.

Also, Test Track is hopelessly overrated as an attraction. Some upgrades and changes couldn't hurt.

Truthfully, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney re-theming Test Track to Cars. I don't want to be negative on this or anything, but I really wouldn't like to see them do this. Though Cars Land's Radiator Springs Racers is the same same ride system and all, if they brought this to WDW, it would not fit the theme of Epcot at all. And dedicating a Future World pavilion to Cars? Hmmm....

I'm one of those who really doesn't mind The Seas with Nemo and Friends(even if it "ruins the classic pavilion", as I've heard many say). Bringing more current Disney/Pixar characters to classic attractions isn't always a bad thing. For Nemo and Friends pavilion, I don't mind it(even thought the OmniMover ride isn't all that great). But for Cars to come to Test Track, I'm wouldn't be a fan of that.

It wouldn't be RSR. It would probably stay close to the same premise (proving grounds) just with Cars interspersed into the ride.

Would a possible re-theme come as early as next year though?

It's possible.

Cars?....Cars? NO. NO. NO. NO. Please, God, No!

Agreed! No need for it and it doesn't fit thematically in EPCOT. We don't need another ride in EPCOT screaming "I'm based on a movie, so go out and buy copies of the DVD!" A Cars overlay at Test Track would give me just one more reason to spend less time (and therefore money) in the parks.

Other than riding once on my first trip following the Nemo overlay at the Living Seas, I haven't set foot in the Seas building, and I won't again until the Nemo theming is gone (I know I have a LONG time to wait). Removing that one ride from my schedule has cost Disney money that I would have otherwise spent in the park...not that it makes a difference to them. Cars at Test Track make me do the same thing...and cause me avoid seeing Cars 2 and buying Cars merchandise in the future.

It has been discussed here at WDWMagic.

And this was posted at Intercot. But was unsure if I could post a direct link here.

"No Cars retheme... I understand this is part of the NEXT-GEN project... You will no longer be visiting a test lab... A device will be used to track information as you move along the queue... You add different options as you move along... What those options are, I don't know... Then, you upload those options to your ride vehicle... Audio and video will change, but the track will stay the same... The specs you create will be shown to you as they hold up during the test track run...You may also be able to email the video you yourself in the new post show..."

Cast members are notorious for having boring jobs and, thus spreading rumors in an attempt to get a reaction out of someone who likes to ask questions.

This makes sense in a lot of ways, it takes people into the next-gen queue that Disney is promoting for more interactive fun, it makes the ride more interesting (hopefully), and GM gets instant feedback from thousands of people on what kind of models they prefer, including colors, etc.
