Steve, I appreciate your apology.

It wasn't exactly my opinion that if a person is allowed to carry hangers (or any other object), then he or she should. I was simply defending why it is "allowable" (at least in America) to carry them. We both should have been more considerate of the fact that we live in different countries and security doesn't operate quite the same way. It seems in the UK the screeners are given more freedom to use their judgement, while in the U.S. we have a concrete list of what can and can't be taken past security. However like you said, just because an item isn't on the list doesn't mean you should bring it.

I have just realized that the person who started this thread said that they were bringing ONLY carry-ons, and this is more of a concern than bringing hangers. It is in my opinion really a big No-No among the airlines and FAA here that you insist on carrying all of the luggage with you personally rather than checking them. First, that means having to lug it through the entire terminal (why would you want to do that), then you have to deal with space issues (fitting it under the seat or in the bins), and it is not unusual for carry-ons to be restricted to one per person. Lost luggage really doesn't happen enough to warrant not checking your bags. Between myself and the rest of my family no one has ever lost anything, and we've taken plenty of different airlines, and a lot of connecting flights. I would rather a bag be lost than having to carry every single thing I brought with me through the whole airport.

Actually, I'm flying in December, and I'm considering not carrying anything with me, except my camera because I'm such an aviation buff :p . I just don't want to be bogged down with bags, having to always watch them every second while in the terminal, especially now that travelers are supposed to be there two hours in advance.

I can never understand why people want to carry on everything they have with them. A small amount is understandable but as you say, lost bags just aren't that frequent.
I'm sure the common sense idea of hand baggage applies in all countries, carry just what you need for the journey, medical supplies etc.
I often see people carrying more in hand baggage than I check in for two weeks!

I need to thread drift here!

I already stated that I would not carry a wire hanger... or a hanger, in general... I use the hotel ones!

But, I need to defend why I prefer to take a carry on with me... I had always heard stories about lost luggage, but finally experienced what it feels like last year. I took one carry on with me and flew Merida(my city)-Miami-Paris. I didn´t want to lose it on the way and have nothing to wear in Paris or the rest of my trip, so I took it with me. I sat next to a lady in the plane who lived there.... her luggage from Miami didn´t arrive. She didn´t care much, but I thanked God mine did arrive.....
Two weeks later, flying back home from Rome to Paris-Miami-Merida, I was so tired to carry it with me in Paris, that I checked it in Rome all the way to my city..... my carry on (and an extra bag) didn´t arrive home! I was desperate! Thank God, it was tracked and never left Rome... it would have been lost for sure if lost in Paris or Miami (the crowds were crazy last June with checkings for so many animal diseases!) The flew my luggage from Rome the next day and it was such a relief! Good idea to carry it with me on the way to Paris, huh?

So... I say, carry ons the most times you can! ;)
But no wire hangers.... :D ;)

Flew out of Orlando on 5-23

My wife and I flew out of Orlando on 5-23 and my bag contained wire hangers. I had a rolling garment bag that I had no problems getting through security screens. I used about 3 or 4 wire hangers and no one gave me a 2nd glance. We were flying one way out of Orlando to Atlanta and we had no problems.

To continue Maria's thread drift....
I'm aware that luggage rarely gets lost, but IF it does, it can be a HUGE inconvenience!

My sister-in-law's luggage was lost on her trip for my wedding. She was fortunate, as her twin was also attending, and staying at the same hotel, so she had someone to lend her clothes. Her luggage showed up a week later.

Our luggage was misplaced while travelling with a toddler. Luckily, it turned up later that night, and someone from the airlines delivered it to us. If they hadn't gotten it by the next morning, it would have meant a shopping trip for me the next day...there was no one to "borrow" from. I don't know if the airlines still deliver "lost" luggage to your home/hotel.

I'm afraid that anyone who has lost luggage once will try to do as much as possible to make sure that she has at least a change of clothes, etc in her carry-on. But I agree...some people do carry on more than I check! ;)

(funny story...on a recent flight, one passenger was absolutely INSISTENT on carrying on an oversized box containing a Cuisinart on this multistop Providence - (ultimately) Ft. Lauderdale flight. It wouldn't fit under the seats or in the overhead, so the attendant stowed it in the front, and reminded the passenger that it was HER responsibilty to get it upon arrival....since it was multistop, and completely full, there was no way for the attendants to keep track of where people were getting off. You guessed it...she left it behind! Since it was not checked, and the lady hadn't "tagged" it, there was no way of tracking her!)

I know a lot of people that always carry a neatly packed single change of clothes in their hand luggage - just in case.
If people are worried about losing luggage, you could always post it to your destination the day before you leave.

I know Delta Airlines is very strict about carry on luggage and has been for the last few years now. They will only allow one carry-on in addition to a choice of one purse, briefcase, camera bag, diaper bag or an aid device. I know they are extremely strict because a couple of years ago I had two carry-ons in addition to my purse and had to reconsolidate two bags into one :hammer: Would not allow me to check-in until I had done so:o

The hardest part is limiting how many goodies (souvenirs) you can bring back from WDW.

Ill just wander back to the thread ......

Quite a few years ago we flew out to Israel ...on the way there nothing exceptional took place just about the security measures that are now in place in US .

HOWEVER ON THE WAY BACK ...there was a security incident and we were bussed to a military airport to catch our plane .....

WELL metal coathangers I WISH ,........it took them 3-4 hours to check in the passengers they opened every ones cases and searched them from top to bottom...each present was un wrapped and inspected some were confiscated ........all belongings were inspected .......then about every third person was taken and frisked by a female or male army officier ...

Thankfully no body inspections

People try their best .......im sure that they sell those wonderful plastic folding ones in US they do in UK ..they are brilliant and take up no space at all .........and they come in pretty colours :D

I wonder how many spelling mistakes i made .............:hammer:
