What kind of help do you need? I speak 17 different languages, French happens to be one of them.

Wow, 17!

I just need some translating for some sentences im stuck on.

Such as "I looked smart" and "I wore a grey waistcoat"
"In the future I would like to be a primary school teacher"
"I loved the week I spent at the school"

Thanks a lot:sohappy:

"I looked smart" [tricky without context - looked can be seemed or appeared and smart can be intelligent or well-dressed/handsome]

I looked handsome - J'ai semblé beau
I looked smart - J'ai semblé futé
"J'ai semblé" means 'I appeared to be', if you want "I was" it would be "J'ai été"

"I wore a grey waistcoat" - J'ai porté un gilet gris

"In the future I would like to be a primary school teacher" - À l'avenir je voudrais être un maître d'école primaire

"I loved the week I spent at the school" - J'ai aimé la semaine que j'ai passée à l'école

Seriously do you speak 17 languages, or was that a joke? If you do, which ones?

I am interested, because I love learning languages. I have a degree in French and German, I learned Latin at school, as far as O'levels, and I am currently learning Welsh.

My next project will be to learn Spanish - por favor mantengase allejado de las puertas - please excuse the spelling, that's the Spanish I just picked up at WDW!

Since you asked...

Fluent:

English
French
Russian
Serbian
Croatian
Italian

Functional:

German
Spanish
Norwegian
Swedish
Greek
Latin

Nominal:

Farsi
Chinese [Mandarin]
Japanese
Gaelic
Magyar [Hungarian]

In fairness, I no longer actually "speak" any but English and French [and French with difficulty] because the languages get jumbled and I end up sounding ridiculous. But I read and/or work with all 17. None of the languages are solid enough to be a simultaneous translator, but the "fluent" rated ones I can pick up nuances in conversation that are normally lost on non-native speakers.

I have a mind that remembers words and their meanings forever once taught. So languages seem to just absorb. Also, when I do speak in a given language, I speak with an almost flawless native accent... It's a natural talent, I've always been able to learn language.

Wow - I'm impressed! How did you learn so many, was it through work or did you just decide to learn them?

Do you use your languages at work? I would love to use mine, but there is not much call for language work where I live, so I am looking around for work that does not include languages.
