Camping at Fort Wilderness

Hello all,

We are going to be camping at Disney Fort Wilderness in May/June. I have been trying to find post/links for anyone who has stayed there with their own camper. I have a found a lot of people who stayed in the cabins and such but not much info on people who stayed there with their own camper. We booked one of the premium sites and was wondering about having your own campfire at your site. Any other tidbits or suggestions would be helpful too. We will be having our two girls with us age 7 and 2.

Thanks!

Open fires are not allowed in the sites unless you have an approved firepit. The regulations for the firepits are posted at the comfort stations. Each site has a "park grill" for cooking but nothing for open fires.

They also may have a burning ban in place due to dry conditions. You should be able to find that out when you check in, or you can call ahead. One little known fact is that they do sell firewood at the Fort. Last I heard, it was $25/load and they deliver it to your site.

I would plan on just going to the campfire at the Meadows as there will probably be a ban on open fires. Bring the bikes! With a premium site you will probably have the entire site covered in blacktop. The fort fiends site has a app that is free which you can view all the sites by loop numbers and it gives the size of the site, composition, degree of difficulty for backing in, and photo. All ears.net has under accommodations and then fort wilderness a good write up, slide show of photos and a listing of things to remember. Enjoy your stay at the fort!

Great choice, if you have a golf cart and bikes bring them or you csn rent anything, and fishing polls also, its a huge place, but a preferred spot is ideal.best camp place ive ever been to

Just downloaded that app, pretty neat!

This past Xmas my fiancé and I drove around FW looking at the xmas lights but we were in her BMW and we were getting a lot of dirty looks and stares but last year when we were in my truck everyone was waving and saying hello and all lol. We were thinking about going back next Xmas in my truck and renting a camper trailer so we can stay at FW. Found a few places to rent from within 30min of wdw.

Fair warning, once you stay at FWC it will be sure to ruin you for staying in the hotels. I love the fact that I have my own bed and kitchen in the RV and our own outdoor space at one of the best campgrounds in the US and you are still visiting the Mouse ;). It is one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever been on.

Absolutely do the campfire movie. It's done every night so it can fit into your schedule. We even cooked hot dogs one night and they do sell the makings for them at the general store. :)

When I bought our new travel trailer this was the first place we took it. I had stayed at the cabins before so I knew how much fun the campgrounds were. My family loves the outdoors. There is so much to do at FWCG. We had turkeys and deer walking down the street. Don't leave your hotdogs or hamburger buns outside at night. I had squirrels steal them off of our table. They were sitting up in the trees around my camper munching down. I think I heard them laughing at me!!

THanks everyone! We are getting excited about it. I will have to try that link too. We love to camp and figured it would be one of the cheaper ways to do the Disnesy experience and still get the resort feel/perks. Me and my DH haven't been to Disney in over 20+ years so I know a lot has changed. It's going to be fun seeing it through our kids eyes this time around. Though it sounds like this may spoil camping for my children LOL. THey will expect mickey mouse at every campground we go to from here on out :-O
