Camera Question

Hi!! We're going to Disney World in January and I'm trying to decide on a camera to bring. My father in law gave me some money to buy a new camera. Usually we've brought a small point and shoot digital camera but I'm looking at a Canon Digital Rebel XT. It's on sale online for $464.95, which I think is a good price. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Digital...3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1196445465&sr=8-3

Anyway, the pictures that you all post are sooooo nice!! I was wondering if you've used this camera or one like it. Was it too big and bulky to carry around with you? When we had our other camera, we'd just throw it in a backpack when we'd go on the rides. If I'm going to spend that much money, I want to make sure that we'll be happy with it. I have a 35mm SLR that we like but we've never really taken it on vacation with us, we just always took the little digital one.

Anyway, any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!! :xmas:
Thanks!!
Jill

I've never used that camera but it looks alright.

I would recommend the fuji s5200. http://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-Fine...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1196533851&sr=1-1 I have the earlier model (s5000) from about 4 years ago and its still a fantastic camera. The colours are balanced really well, it copes with difficult light levels and the auto-focus is great for quick point and shoot. It's not the smallest camera but it's not huge either.

I also suggest you look at getting a tripod or monopod too - especially if you want to use the zoom on the camera or take night-shots. I'm going to invest in a gorilla pod for my next trip. Its esentially a portable tripod although you can wrap it around objects (like fences).

Thanks! One of my reasons for going with the Canon is that I recently got a zoom lens for the 35mm one and I can use it on the digital one.

I used a Kodak EasyShare Z700 4.0 Megapixel for my pictures.

I got it cheap when we had it on clearance at work. It came with a docking port that downloads from it to tmy computer and recharges my batteries that came with it also.

The pictures I took came out pretty good and look fine on the many prints I ordered from Kodak itself. I'm happy with mine..... for now.

That IS a great price! I am in the market for a DSLR camera as well... and have been going back and forth between this Canon and the Nikon D40.
I've been researching and they are both great!
I know a few advanced photographers and they use the Canon Rebel XT or XTI, and I also freelance graphic work for a professional photographer and she swears by Canon, mostly because like you said... the lenses are all compatible. I say... go for it!

I have the Digital Rebel and I LOVE it! It is a big camera to lug, and if you add a bigger zoom you will end up carying around a good size camera bag. Thing is, after the trip is over, all you have is your memories, and your pictures, so to me it's worth it to spend at least one day at each park with the good camera.

Be sure to get a UV filter (just to protect the end of your lens), and an extra battery. It's a drag when you finally see the lions on the safari ride, only to have your lithium battery die on you. A monopod is cool if you are shooting at night and want to kill the flash and get the ambient lighting (think fireworks, and the castle).

The camera is super simple to use in full auto mode, but can be completely manual as you learn how to use the deeper features. A big thumbs up from me!!

A few samples of the camera's abilities....

HAVE FUN!!

Thank you!! I ordered it yesterday :sohappy: and I'll go buy an extra battery and the filter!! I can't wait to get it!! I think I might actually read the manual with this one!! :ROFLOL: You're pictures are beautiful!!! Hopefully I can get some like that! My daughter has a point and shoot digital camera so we'll bring that one, too. But, like you said, it'll be nice to take some nicer pictures on some days!!
Thanks again for all your advice! I love this board!!!
