Camcorders on Attractions

Everyone has seen the "Youtube" videos of attractions, and I am going to Disney World in March and had a question.

Are camcorders allowed on rides? Or are they discouraged? I ask simply because I want to take some on-ride videos for my family, who may never be able to visit Disney World.

As long as there's no external lighting you should be fine. And LCD monitors on camcorders (should) fall into that category too.

I really hate it when people sitting in front me on a ride (ie: POTC, IASW) have their camcorder's LCD screen open and shinning like a beacon.

^cosign...:)

Also, it is great to have some video, but I have seen people so focused on getting their video that they don't actually experience any of the stuff first hand. They see everything in the parks through their viewfinders or LCD screens. Relax and enjoy the parks.

There are rides they specifically tell people not to video. I was behind someone on RnRC last week when they told her to put away the camcorder or they would not launch the ride.

Yeah, coaster -type rides are probably not gonna let you hold a camera. Too much a risk of your camera flying off and hitting someone behind/next to you, or even the ride structures themselves.

Slow-moving or theater shows you can usually get away with filming with though if you're sure to not have any light showing.

I have a new Sony HD camera and I'm thinking of trying out filming the American Adventure, and other rides, next week on my trip.

I've posted this before, but these are the attractions you are specifically told not to tape (all else is okay):

Magic Kingdom
Carousel of Progress
Stitch's Great Escape
Monsters Inc., Laugh Floor

EPCOT Center
Ellen's Energy Adventure
Sometimes Body Wars if you get a nasty CM (and if it's open)
Cranium Command (if it's open)
The Making of Me (if it's open)
Circle of Life
Soarin'
Honey, I Shrunk the Audience
Impressions De France
American Adventure (sorry!)

Disney's Hollywood Studios
Star Tours (although it it okay at Disneyland)
One Man's Dream (the movie portion)
Rock n' Rollercoaster (this is the ONLY rollercoaster they stop you from taping)
Tower of Terror

Animal Kingdom
It's Tough to be a Bug
Sometimes you'll get a CM who's y about taping on Dinosaur, but for the most part they're okay with it.

Pretty thorough list. Nice job, where did you find it?

My personal experience at the parks, be polite, firm, and just a little naive.. and you can generally do as you please :D

And if you get a CM threatening to confiscate your equipment (and they occasionally sprout up), remind them that they have no authority or right whatsoever to touch any of your personal possessions ;)

If I record anything, I typically ask to sit in the back of the boat/vehicle so as to not distract anyone. My two video cameras of choice (a digital camera that also takes video, plus the new FlipVideo camera) don't have a light in the front but do have an LCD display. It would be distracting.

I do plan to tape parades and shows on my quick two day/four park trip.

I've never had a huge desire to tape any rides. I'd rather experience it. Unless I knew a ride was being torn down, I probably wouldn't ever tape it.

They can't confiscate your equipment, but they surely can call security who will ask you to leave the park for the day (a.k.a. escort you to the front gate) if you are taping on an attraction where it is not allowed.

Never ran into any problems, but on RnR I was in the second row of a car so the camera view would have been tough anyway. But I have filmed Soarin, although it's the same where if you film a screen display of something you get lines through the video. But cool nonetheless. And I have filmed EE 3 times, remember to switch to nightshot on the backward part.

I'm like CThaddeus. I feel lost without my camcorder or camera while in the parks. In my experience, I just pay attention to whether or not you're allowed to film and am mindful of not disturbing anyone else's experience. My biggest pet peeve in the parks is when people use flash/lights on rides. Really.

I've filmed on BTMR and EE and had no trouble. Good luck!

Thank you for being respectful of that and may I add an emphasis

Please, please,do not use flashes or lights in Voyage of the Little Mermaid

(This brought to you by a former friend of Max the Dog, he does bite:lol:)

I've taped Soarin' with my digital camera and it came out great! I've also taped Test Track from beginning to end. Other than that, I like to enjoy the ride more that worry about taping it.

Ugh I will second that! I've got no problems with anyone wanting to record the rides (I do it myself on occassion) but omg, please close the LCD!

i've taped Tower of Terror, It's Tough to be a Bug, and Dinosaur, and no one said anything to me. I suppose a lot of it depends on the CM and the mood their in!

What about when Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Play It! was open?

They seemed pretty serious about taping and I wonder if they would confiscate your equipment.

Or what about if you take a camera and record on a behind the scenes tour?

Dinosaur kind of hard since the attraction throws you all over the place.

But how does filming a 3D movie make any sense?

now you sound like my wife!! :ROFLOL:
she said the same thing, but we only get to go to WDW once every 2 or 3 years, so i record as much as possible to help me through the withdrawls. plus, the hopper AA is pretty cool. but the movie, yeah, kinda blurry. :ROFLOL:
