I'm all for the progression and refurbishment of Epcot's Future World, and am looking forward to taking in the new Soarin' attraction. But does it really make sense to have a ride about California in one of their Florida parks? Why not do a Soarin' ride over Florida or even all of the worldwide Disney parks? That would be pretty cool.

This has been discussed in a couple of threads at length (sorry, no links, but you should be able to find them pretty easily).

To address your two questions, I'll just repeat what I've read from a lot of people on here:

Why not Florida?

Florida is not nearly as beautiful or topographically diverse as California when seen from the air--Soarin' Over Florida would be soaring over swamps, basically.

Why not a lot of different places?

This actually might be in the works, but the decision to go ahead with the attraction and open up with the California film (in conjunction with DL's 50th anniversary) is what we're looking at right now.

The ride will open in conjunction with DL's 50th anniversary. As a result, Soarin' will be a "gift" from DL.

Currently in the works is a brand new film that will replace the DL film in due time.:)

At the land, it shouldn't reflect California OR Florida.

If they do decide to focus on Florida, it shouldn't be about tourist destinations.

The Land is about symbiosis - interaction between species in nature.

The most appropriate theme would be a look at the earth's many ecosystems and how they all play a part together to hold the capacity for life - - and if WDI is ambitious, how we influence it.

At least in Florida.

Hey....In my opinion, it seems most people have not ridden the Original and are getting all upset over nothing!

I had the pleasure of riding it MANY times during my first visit to California Adventure with some friends last month. It is AWESOME! We found ourselves wanting to ride it again and again during our week there - it is so unique, it never got old!

Quite frankly, being from NY and not knowing California all that well, we would not have had a clue which land I was soarin' over if it wasn't in the title of the attraction! It shows such diverse scenery that it looked like it could have been filmed in ANY state!

There is so much to look at and so many sensory things to experience on the ride that the fact that it is California is secondary to the whole experience.

Aside from (I believe?) a short trip over the Golden Gate bridge, the film could have been from ANYWHERE!

Seriously, it's like worrying about the food at a restaurant you have never been to.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride! It's AWESOME!!!

When I was working before soaring was released i was told that for Epcot's 25th celebration they were going to change it to Soaring over Epcot. That sounds interesting if they still decided to go ahead with it.

And here is the expanse of space behind the Mission Space pavilion. . . . . . and pay no attention to those glass pyramids! There's nothing up there! :p :drevil:

Anyway, despite the show being VERY awe-inspiring and great and entertaining, I just feel that the point that it's out of place may continue the trend of things just not fitting at EPCOT with a weak and random base.

I, too, hear that the film will eventually be replaced.

Flying over Florida... no interest to me. California has a much better landscape... cities, forests, mountains.

Why not have a Soaring Over America. It would be a good idea for all travelers... it would be extremely varied...

... heck... why not have several videos? Film production is chep compared to the cost of the actual ride.

Soarin' Over California will be okay for the short time it will be showing. The new film that is in production right now should reflect The Land's environmental theme. In my opinion, it should be Soarin' Over the World or Soarin' Over America where you could see all the different landscapes.

For those who have had a chance to ride the one a DCA, is it really a decent ride?

I generally cringe at the idea of simulators. I've never been impressed by one... neither the Star Tours style... nor the old hanna barbara ride style.

Its fantastic! We went on twice we liked it so much, I don't think i've ever been on a ride like it before :D Some of the views you get to see are stunning and( like mentioned earlier) show parts of California I never even knew existed!

Soariin is not like any simulaltor you've been on. It is an awesome ride and produces a feeling unlike any I've had on a ride.

As to California in Florida, I think it makes more sense than California in California. As to Soaring over WDW, there is a bit in the end at the ride at DCA that shows Disneyland and that is great so it would be fun for them to a least put a bit of WDW in a new film.

It's really a pride thing. I'm from Florida. I love Florida. I don't care about California necessarily. It just comes across as a "We think your state is boring, here's a more interesting state.... by the way, visit Disneyland in California".

See my post above ^^^^^^^

I wasn't making that stuff up! It's AWESOME!!!

It's not a simulator in the Star Tours sense all. Its more of an Imax movie in a floating chair with 90 other people! No sharp turns, crashes, blood clots, or rebel fighters chasing you. It's more a feeling of being in a Hot Air balloon "soarin" through the skies.

In truth, they could have called it Soarin Over America and very few people would notice or care. There is little in it to make you think you are over California. From that height, all cities, lakes, and farms look the same!

Trust me....you will all LOVE it!!!
Just call it plain ole "Soarin" if it makes you feel better!

I always like to think big so why not make it Soarin Over Planet Earth and take us all for a ride through the wonderful countries in the entire world. Think of the endless combinations that can be changed every so often and the ride would always seem brand new.
