I just read Debs newsletter for the week and it said that CG now has a business casual dress code. Does anyone know if this is correct? And if so what do they consider business casual? BC at my wifes office considers shorts to be unacceptable reguardless how nice they are. Does CG have the same standards. We were planning a dinner there and I surely wasnt planning on wearing long pants while im on vacation in june. Hopefully a shirt with a collar and nice shorts are fine.

I had read that too about CG's new dress code of business casual. I think shorts are out. T-shirts are out. Something like a pair of slacks and a nice polo shirt will work for me. I usually dressed business casual when I hit restaurants like CG and Jiko or Bistro de Paris at Epcot.

I read the same thing, however I thought it was always bussiness casual. We were there in 2003 and I wore a dress and hubby tan pants and polo shirt. I remember them telling us it was bussiness casual when I made the PS.

My question is will they still allow people to go up to the observation deck to see the fireworks? We ate dinner there before the fireworks and they encourged us to return and see it later. It apeared that many people who didn't have dinner did the same thing (but it wasn't too crowded.)

I would say shorts are now out. But you can always call 407-WDW-DINE and ask.

I love eating at at California Grill. In order to really enjoy it, I always make sure I schedule in some relaxation time at my resort beforehand, maybe take a swim, but at least have enough time to shower and change my clothes. It's far more comfortable eating such a fine meal when you aren't all sweaty from running around the parks. Plus this way I can wear shorts and a t-shirt at the parks earlier in the day, then change into slacks and a polo shirt to meet the restaurant's requirements.

When you are going to eat at such a fine (and expensive) restaurant, make it an event and dress up. Don't just treat it as a pit stop to fuel up like you do at the counter-service places. Bon Appetit!

I've been to CG several times over the last couple years and it's always been business casual. When you make priority seating, they tell you this. I don't know if they actually used to call it "business casual" but when I went the first time back in 2003, I was told that "park attire" was not suitable. Most people just wear dress pants and nice shirts/pretty blouses. :) It's not really, really fancy like Victoria & Albert's or anything.

You must have a PS to even be taken up to CG now. It probably got too crowded when they allowed anyone and everyone on the observation deck

dress code

i think it's safe to say that as long as your pants touch your ankles and you've got a collar on your shirt, you're in.

i ate there last month and there were a few folks in t-shirts.

... or maybe they just lost their shirts when the bill came!

Last time I ate there was over a year ago, but every time I had dinner there, I was wearing shorts. I have to dress every day for work, so on vacation it's nice not having to worry about that sort of thing.

I was just wondering. We did Victoria and Alberts once. Great meal and experience but simply for the fact of dressing up I probally wont go there again. Im on vacation and want to feel that way. It would be diffrent to wear a coat and tie to dinner is say you were in vegas and most ppl around you dressed simular. But how manny times have you been in GF around dinner time, seen a man in a coat and tie escourting a lady in a dress. The first thing that comes to my mind is oh look they must be going to V&As. I dont mind dressing reasonably, hopefully something like a pair of Haggar shorts with a pressed shirt will be accecptable. I cant bring myself to wear long pants when its 100 degrees to go to a resturant and be seated next to someone with a stroller full of theme park souviners and those squirt fan things hanging everywhere, whos wearing flip flops and cargo shorts (Trust me , reguardless of the dress code I seem to always end up next to them) only to leave there, go all the way back to the room to change into something comfortable to wear to the park for the night.

When I am at home and go to a nice restaurant for dinner I toally agree that it is nice to get dressed up and make the meal an event. When I am at WDW chances are that I will not get back to the room for a shower and get dressed up as it would take too much time and take up too much room in my suitcase to bring dress clothes/shoes. There are many nice sit down restaurants in the world showcase and even though I am in shorts I still make the meal into an event and have never treated those restaurants like counter service fast food joints where you shovel the food in and move on. Until now I did not know that there was anyplace at WDW that had a dress code except Victoria and Alberts. I would have to say that for business casual you would need to wear pants and a polo shirt (dont think a button down is necessary).

The dress code for California Grill is..

Dress slacks, khakis, jeans, business length shorts or skirt
Oxford style dress shirt or polo shirt with collar for men, casual blouse or dress for women
Jackets optional

Not allowed: swimwear, t-shirts or tank tops, open toed shoes.

Exceptions will be made for children (3-9) to wear T-shirts

The podium is located on the 2nd FL of the Contemporary Resort, any window request must be made at the time of check-in and may delay your seating time. When your table is ready you will be escorted to the 15th floor in a private elevator. The observation decks are for the excusive use of patrons of the restaurant. During Wishes the music and narration is played both inside the restaurant and on the outside decks.

Book your priority seatings early (up to 90 days in advance) as this location fills up fast for seatings at or near the scheduled performance time of the "Wishes" fireworks show.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

:

I would not think of jeans as Business casual unless you are talking construction or plumbing.

Most informative, JPVonDrake. Thanks.

"Business length shorts." Not exactly sure what that is, but Brian Skinner's thought of "a shirt with a collar and nice shorts" probably would be fine then.

Before they changed it to business casual, they used to just say, "No Tank tops."

And I have to agree with Brian's comment about V&A's. I haven't eaten there, partially because of the cost, but also because packing a jacket and tie on vacation seems a bit much.

As far as CG, I'm just saying I like using it as my one relaxed fine meal of my trip. I leave some extra time for it, so I can be particularly comfortable for it. There are other excellent meals I have at World Showcase where for obvious reasons you will be in whatever you're wearing to the park that day.

It's all in how you wear them... ;) My hubby looks hot when he wears his jeans and an untucked button up - but he wears his clothes fitted b/c he has a nice body... Last time we were at CG (dec '04) we both wore jeans - I dressed mine up with a pair of heels and he dressed his up with a button up - but didn't tuck it in... again, it's all in how you wear it.
