California’s Great America Closing…In Eleven Years

The carousel will almost certainly be saved and kept around by somebody, somewhere.

The Demon, though...almost certainly scrap metal.

Thankfully, no matter what happens, both still will continue to exist at Six Flags Great America, along with many other classics that the California park got rid of long ago, like the Whizzer and both original flumes. As much as Six Flags seems like they're finally rather to slather Superhero dreck all over everything now, there's quite a lot of the original park that remains intact.

Well, it would be nice just to get the trains for our Demon for backup.

Having worked there in the early 00's being "friends" with Bugs.. The golden rule was that the Looney Tunes characters were to be out especially Bugs..You can hardly see them pop up now as they seem to focus more on the DC side of the WB marketing which was an embarrassment when they unveiled the weak retheme of Yankee Harbor..Heck, Yukon Territory is the 2nd most embarrassing section of the park..An area to take you back to the by gone days of the 1840's gold rush..NOPE it now has a Pay to ride Go Kart Track, a closed log ride,a kiddie roller coaster which should have stayed in Melrose Park rather than be punished, a Kids area with it's IP gutted and a Mooseburger lodge where the burger is a major disappointment..

For anyone curious, here is the expansion plan for CGA that got canned: https://www.storylandstudios.com/work/californias-great-america/. Very interesting to see what could have been. Megabyte, the hyper coaster that was part of this plan, did end up being built...as Orion at Kings Island.
It would have put the Six Flags version in IL to shame no doubt too bad the theming has become stagnant and week since Six Flags doesn't care of upkeep let alone theming their parks anymore..

First time I’m seeing this thread…
We lived in San Jose when the park first opened as “Marriott’s Great America” back in March of ‘76. It was all the rage, but, we only visited a couple of times before we moved back to Texas in August. I was 13.
I especially remember the double decker carousel and the rollercoaster “Turn of the Century”.
Sounds like the place may very well be pretty unrecognizable from way back when, but, still kinda’ sad to hear that it may be no more, in the not too distant future.
