Buying WDW Passes at Disney Stores

Has any of you ever pre-bought your WDW multi-day passes at a Disney Store? I know they offer them for sale. Is it worth it?

I've been told that if you do buy in advance at Disney Stores, you get a discount from what it would cost if you bought them at WDW ticket booths. Is this true?

If so, does Disney Store actually sell you a usable pass--something that will gain you entry into the parks--or is it a voucher that needs to be turned in at a WDW ticket booth?

Any advice or shared experience will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

There is no advantage to prepurchasing an AP. It costs the same wherever you buy it.

The one advantage is to be able to pre-purchase the Disney Dining Experience and have the actual card before your trip! I thought maybe buying at the store would save the shipping cost of having them delivered. :)

Florida state sales tax is 6%
plus
Both Orange County and Oseola County adds .5 % sales tax

Therefore all merchandise, admission tickets, and prepared foods = 6.5 % tax

Orange County Resort tax is 5%
Oseola County Resort tax is 6.5%

Therefore room tax on Disney's All Star Resorts = 13% tax
And room tax on all other Disney Resorts = 11.5% tax

The tax charged for Disney Tickets sold outside of the state of Florida is still 6.5% and that tax goes to Florida, not the state you purchase the tickets in.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

It's probably just as low price buying them online and through a travel agent, too. Off topic but I found it really sad when I learned that the Disney store...isn't owned by disney anymore. I was reading the back of a coupon and, there it was, "The Disney store is not owned by nor affiliated in any way with the Disney company" or something...

Some stores sell them others don't. Best to call and ask. There is no advantage to prepurchasing an AP. It costs the same wherever you buy it.

One advantage to buying an AP early is if you buy it at the Earport at MCO airport. This AP will already be activated, so no need to stop somewhere on the way to your room. From what I know, this is only at the Earport. I'm going to call the Earport to verify this prior to my trip.

Our Disney store no longer sales AP's, so I'm going to have to order online. They do have all of the other tickets. We went to buy my mom's for our trip in Dec. and they were sold out of the no expire passes, but were expecting to get more in.

It is an advantage IF you are going to use it the day of purchase, otherwise you do lose time. I use will call, pick it up at Epcot's International entrance and it takes no more than 5 minutes. I don't need a pass to check into DVC, and I have never been asked for one when I have checked in at any other resort using an annual pass discount.

The Disney Stores charge 6.5% FL sales tax. We have a lot of guests that come in just for information, although I'd say most come back and purchase tickets. I like when they come and ask questions in the store instead of holding up the lines at the gate. We used to sell APs but that ended a couple years ago.

It's really not that important to me. I was just providing some information on the subject, since I experienced this yesterday. I forgot we had so many experts on the subject. I'll guess I'll stick to the "What are the best smelling bathrooms in AK?" or "What color shirt should I wear to Epcot on Sunday?" threads.
