Buying some time from one of you?

I hope to heaven this is not a controversial question. LOL If so, please forgive me now.

For me to buy the DVC is just not economical since I only go once a year, but we are taking our family (my mom and dad, my husband and 2 kids) for December 23rd-27th, preferably the AKL or Polynesian if possible. I need the larger space....They sell them on ebay but I would rather go through here.

To the best of my knowledge, wdwmagic doesn't want to get involved in those kinds of transactions, mainly because if someone winds up getting hosed, they don't want to be considered responsible, in whole or in part.

So if the thread gets locked or deleted, that's why. Sorry.

There are, however web sites that arrange the renting of DVC points for you. They charge a little more per point, as a commission, but they do most of the work for you, and this way you have an actual company from whom you can seek recompense if something goes wrong, rather than risking your entire vacation on a cyber handshake and a promise from a stranger on the internet.

Here's one that's supposed to be good, but I've never used them and make no promises: http://www.dvcrequest.com/

slightly off-topic, but DVC is pretty much made for people who go ever year.

Thank you! I appreciate it, sorry to the powers that be if I stepped on any toes or broke any rules.

Please feel free to lock the thread or delete if need be. :)

The DIS Boards also have a good rent board and some good information about renting points. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me, I have rented before and now own. Also - FYI, the DVC resorts are Old Key West, Beach Club Villas, Boardwalk Villas, Villas at Wilderness Lodge, Saratoga Springs Resort, and Animal Kingdom Villas.
Since there will be six of you, you will need a two bedroom villa. You can find descriptions of each of the resorts and rooms on allears.net.

I know that Poly is not a dvc but one person was telling me you can still use points to get into the Poly, is that true?

Knowledge is power, this stuff is confusing! LOL!

Since you're trading out of the DVC system when you stay at the Poly, there's a $95 exchange fee that you'll have to pay. And the point costs per night are much, much higher for non-DVC resorts like the Poly.

For Dec 23-27, the cheapest Poly room (garden view) is 58 points per night for Sun-Thurs nights, and 104 points per night for Friday or Saturday. Assuming you can get points at $10, that's $580 a night for weekdays, $1040 for weekends. You'd pay much less by booking the Poly through CRO.

For comparison's sake, here are the weekday/weekend point requirements for savannah view at AKV (a DVC resort):

Studio: 20/40
1-bedroom: 39/77
2-bedroom: 53/104

As you can see, you can get a 1-bedroom at AKV for considerably less than the Poly, and you'd get a separate bedroom with king bed, jacuzzi, a full kitchen, and washer-dryer.

When you hear people talk about saving money by renting a reservation from a DVC member, that only applies to stays at DVC resorts.

You can, but it "costs" a lot more (points) than at a DVC resort.

Good Luck!

Yeah, Disney doesn't really want DVC members using points for NON-DVC rooms, so the point value is incredibly high. In fact, using points in MODERATE resorts are about the same as the point values of many DVC rooms, so you can bet the point value of deluxe rooms are insane.

For people who are renting points from a DVC member to use in a NON-DVC resort, the cost would be about the same as paying rack rates for the room, out of pocket.
