Buses

Does anyone know if you have to show some sort of ID to get from your hotel to disney world on the provided buses? We're going to stay at Port Orleans, but wonder what sort of proof we'll need to ride the buses...if any. Some friends may visit us there for the day and want to ride over with us.

My family & I always stay at the Contemporary & whenever we have taken a Disney Transport bus to MGM, Animal Kingdom or Downtown Disney we have never been asked to show Resort ID, so I wouldn't worry about that.

We've never been asked to show resort ID to ride resort transportation; it is my understanding that purchasing a park ticket allows the ticketholder the use of all Disney transportation, anyway. I think you and your friends will be fine.

Another thing that I hope will reasure you about your friends wanting to take the Disney bus is that guests who take the bus to the TTC most likley are staying off site, so they wouldn't have a Resort ID card to show when they get on the bus. Basically what I am saying is if WDW has a bus which is used by day vistors to WDW that leave their cars at the Magic Kingdom parking lot, then your friends will have no problem.

A lot of times I'll drive over to Downtown Disney one day just to hang out. When I'm there, I take the buses to a bunch of the resorts just to (again) hang out. I wasn't staying at any of them and I wasn't going to the parks. I've never encountered any problems, wven when I was the only one on the bus.

Since all the responses have been that no one was asked to show Resort ID, why does the Walt Disney World Birnbaums Guide say you must show Resort ID when going on Buses, Monorails & Ferry Boats?

Musta been a mistake. We have never been asked for a resort ID to use WDW transportation.

I don't think it's a mistake. I remember I would purchase that book every year it came out & it always said you must show Resort ID. I think it said the same thing again in the 2006 edition.

Well, I would not bank on them checking for resort IDs. Think about it. It would take forever to check everyone.

Truthfully, the Disney buses were never meant as a means of transportation from resort to resort - they were designed to transport resort guests from their resort to the parks (and back) as quickly and efficiently as possible.

That said, though, my park tickets have always had a printed message on the back saying that guests have unlimited use of the Disney transportation system. If you and your friends are questioned, you can always say that you have just eaten at the resort food court/restaurant, and are now heading to the parks (or whatever).

That is just to cover there buts. That way they can ask you to show a resort ID if they want. They almost never do, but I have seen it. I have seen it a few times late night at Pleasure Island. For the most part they just wanted to make sure the drunk guys belonged on the bus.

I am sure they have to print that, for legal reasons, incase they one do check for some odd reason, it covers them. Never in 10+ years have I ever been carded.

In the early 80's I got ID'd all the time for the monorail. But never since and never on a bus. They want you to be able to spend money at the restaurants. :)
