Bus Use

Once you are on Disney property you may use the bus system.

They want your money, they will take you to spend it.

Some people try to tell you that they are for the exclusive use of resort guests. They are not.

Over the years, all the time we took the busses never saw anybody checking for idea or proof of staying on the resort. To me it would be to time consuming and costly to do it anyways.

In the 2005 Birnbaum's guide, they specifically say that transportation use is specifically for resort guests and park hoppers only. I imagine that the official Disney policy changed to allow non-resort guests long before they altered the print policy, since there is no way a bus driver would know whether or not the park hopper was on your ticket. I haven't seen that disclosure printed since then, so I assume they finally removed it from their official written policies.

If you have valid park admission then you have the right to use all Disney transportation. WDW = resort , Wilderness Lodge (or any of the others) = hotel ... people seem to forget this.

I remember back in the late 80's you need to show your resort ID to get on the bus. But it is no longer required.

I remember that as well.

It would be way to time consuming and a waste of efforts for the bus drivers to check especially since most guests either are staying at a resort of have park hopper tickets.

I suspect the key is where are you planning to get on? It's pretty hard to park at a Disney resort these days without a reservation / parking pass.

But to move from park to park or from DTD to a hotel or another park, I've never seen any bus driver ask for ID.

Oh, you again. What other ways are you hoping to cheat the system? Are you going to pretend to be under 3 and see if you can get free admission in the park as well?

Are you kidding me? I am not trying to cheat the system. If you were to read the posts before yours, you would see the that buses are NOT for an exclusive club, so anyone on property can use them. How is that cheating the system?

Park guests, no matter where they are staying, also need to get from the parks to the resorts for eating at the resort restaurants, and back.
Also for Hoop-De-Do and other activities.

Here's What I read in the New Birnbaum Guide..and I Quote:

"Guests who wish to use the Disney transportation system may be asked for proof of riding privileges. Accepted ID's afford differant degrees of access. WDW resort ID cards, Magic Your Way tickets with Park Hopper options or Water Park Fun and More options, and Annual Passes lets Guests use all Disney buses, monorails, and boats. Valid one-day theme park tickets permit guests to use monorails and the ferries running btween the TTC and the Magic Kingdom but DO NOT ALLOW USE OF BUSES."

In the past, I have, on several occasions, been asked to show resort ID Cards.

We were just at the world from April 11-17. We used the bus service all over including all the park hopping we did and even downtown disney - not once was I asked to show my ID. In the past 5 years staying on- site I was never asked for it either. Can you imagine asking 50 people deep trying to get on the bus asking for resort ID.

That's really interesting. Well, it makes sense a little bit because if you only had a one-day one-park ticket and were not staying on property, where would you really need to take Disney transportation? That being said, while on the tram from DAK parking lot last weekend, I distinctly remember the tram operator telling guests on board where the bus stops were and that they were FREE to all guests. I haven't extensively used the bus system, so I don't know if or how often drivers check tickets.

The thing is, how can you prove a non-resort ticketholder has a park hopper? It has to be scanned for a CM to know, and to my knowledge the bus drivers don't have that type of equipment.

Birnbaum needs to revise that wording.

Take the case of a guest on a 5-day trip to WDW who does not have the Park Hopper option or an Annual Pass but needs to go from the Magic Kingdom to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to eat at Boma.
That guest can surely ride the Disney bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Here's a compromise so all the holier than thou fanbois here can go back into their righteous holes. These are the same people who NEVER exceed the speed limit, full stop at every stop sign, brush their teeth at least 3 times a day, leave the room to fart, always put the seat down, and never lie about charitable donations on their taxes. :animwink:

My next trip, I'm renting a car since the bus system/scooter taxi service is never on time and I can't remember the last time I got a seat and didn't have to stand. Since I will NOT be using the bus system for my 7 day length of stay, I hereby transfer my rights to you and your party as long as it does not exceed 3 people and your use does not exceed 7 days.

There! Problems solved and everybody is now happy. :ROFLOL:
