Bumpity rides?

So we're planning our 6th trip to WDW this coming April - the week after Easter, no less :hammer:, but I just found out that, at the tender age of 50, I have fairly advanced osteoporosis. My Dr. says to "act like you're 85 - no horseback riding, that sort of thing." I don't intend to let this ruin my trip, but I don't want to take too many chances. I already sit out from Space Mountain and BTMR because they're just not comfortable for me. I also plan to skip Star Tours and Body Wars (if it's operating), since they don't excite me all that much. However, since TofT is my favorite ride, I'm going to go ahead and do it (but just once). I don't remember it joggling me around much, anyway. I'm also thinking that RnRC would be OK because I don't remember being joggled, but maybe that's just because I like it!

So are there any other rides that strike people as being especially bumpy? I've never been on Mission:Space or Soarin'. Any reason to skip them? Expedition Everest should at least be in soft opening by then. I'd sure hate to miss it, but since it's a newer ride I'm hoping that they've made it well-padded and fairly smooth.

All input is appreciated!

The general consensus is that Everest will be very smooth, just like RnRC.
Mission Space applies high G-Forces, and there is a period of extended bumpiness near the finale.
Test Track is fairly smooth, unless you count the "rough road" tests and a few hairpin turns.
Soarin is as smooth as silk -- only two things that I'd even consider a "bump," and they're no worse than someone nudging your shoulder.

Welcome to the boards!

I'm not sure you would want to go on RNR. It is a very smooth rollar coaster, but with the take-off and loops I wouldn't put an 85 year old on it.

Soarin' won't be a problem, smooth as can be. I would definately avoid Dinosaur, it'll rattle your spine vigorously! Most rides have warnings that say not to ride if you have back problems, probably a matter of asking a CM how severe any particular ride is.

Other rides to avoid [besides those you've already mentioned]:

Splash Mountain
Mission: Space [though you might ask about it]
Test Track
Kali River Rapids
Kilimanjaro Safari
Primeval Whirl

Expedition Everest, Tower of Terror and Rockin' Roller Coaster all have back problem warnings as well. Like I said, ask.

The good news is: Even avoiding all of these rides, there's still plenty of fun to be had at Disney :sohappy:

The only thing I would reccomend is when you're on RnRc or any coaster sit in the front, since obviously the back has more "whip" to it.

I mean as much as you want to go on, just be careful. ToT is still pretty jerky and remember you're coming off of your seat and flopping back down every time. It might not be the best idea.

I would think you'd be ok for Mission: Space and Soarin' since those don't post a real "jerky" ride risk.

I think you would be okay on ToT, considering all you do is freefall, but RnRC is pretty bumpy if you ask me, and you do get thrown around a bit.

Yes the end of MS is really bumpy that was what got me. I can't really think of anything else...Soarin was REALLY smooth, you should have no problems there. I know how you feel about being jarred around. SM and ST [although a big favorite of mine] always jerk me around more than I would like. Oh well.

Have a great trip!

Edit: Oh Primevil Whirl was REALLY jerky too. I loved it but a friend that I rode with was miserable on it. The turns are what get you.

On Test Track, the ride isn't too bad overall, but sit on the right side. Then, when you go on the brake run (No ABS), lean to the right as much as you can. This throws you back and forth a bit and you can hit the person next to you if you don't compensate.

Another one to avoid is the TL Indy Speedway. The ride itself is nothing, but you can get bumped from behind with a pretty big jolt (trust me :hammer: ).

Enjoy your trip, and have alot of fun!

Wow! You folks are speedy! :D Thanks for the input!

I know everyone's experience is different, but I really do appreciate the opinions about the rides. It's been 3 years since we were there last, and it's a little hard to remember the specifics. And, of course, you're right that there's plenty of fun to be had without the thrill rides - though I don't think of BTMR as much of a thrill :animwink:.

col, you mentioned both Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean as bumpy. I know there are drops in couple of places, but in my memory the splash down isn't too jarring. Are you thinking of some other part of the ride, or have you experienced more bouncing around?

Anyway, thanks everyone! :animwink:

I would definitely avoid Space Mountain and Primevil Whirl
They both are hard on the joints.

Smoother rides, Water rides, omnimovers, and Tower of Terror should all be ok.

One word of warning: Take it nice and slow getting in and out of attraction vehicles.
If you try and get in or out too fast or make too swift of a movement it can be extremely painfull.

I say watch out for Spaceship Earth!! That's the bumpiest ride in the entire resort at the moment!!

I see no reason why you couldn't ride Splash Mountain or Pirates of the Caribbean. I think you should only avoid:

Space Mountain
Rock and Roller Coaster
Mission: Space
Test Track
Dinosaur
Primeval Whirl
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Star Tours
Tower of Terror???

Splash Mountain is for the most part smooth going. Last time I was there with my Mother (71 years old, arthritis, wearing a TENS machine and awaiting spinal decompression surgery), she was in a similar position of being careful with her spine, but she LOVES Splash Mountain and never had a problem with it.

I agree with P Whirl..... we went on about 5 times in a row and it took me days to feel right! But, it's more of a kid's ride so you won't be missing out.

Kil. Safari can be very bumpy, especially if you sit in the back. I have sat in the front and it wasn't bad at all. My Mom also has Osteop. and she enjoyed this ride very much. (As long as you don't get MKT's last driver!!)

Have a great time!

As I was driving home today on the pot-hole fields that pass for roads in the Great Northeast, it occurred to me that I was getting a very bumpy ride. What makes it OK is that the seat is cushioned and there's back and neck support. So I guess that I mostly need to factor those things in.

Looking forward to all the rides I get to go on!

Space Mt & Thunder Mt are bumpy, Splash Mt is smooth. Everything else at MK should be fine.

Star Tours is bumpy, Tower of Terror is smooth. Rock N Rollercoaster depends on where you sit. If you sit in the back it's extremely jerky. If you sit in the front its very smooth.

At Epcot everything should be fine except Test Track.

At Animal Kingdom definitely avoid Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, and Kilimanjaro Safaris!
