Bullish on Chapek & His Crew for Disneyland (not sarcasm)

I’m wondering how many will show up to the Orlando airport next year not knowing Magical Express has been discontinued. That sort of thing will make people furious. Many will already know but there will be some who don’t pay attention. It’s that sort of thing that can be the breaking point for people not to return. Declining by big degrees.

See everyone, as news keeps coming out regarding avengers campus - Chapek and his team are exactly the kind of people who'd charge $100 for a sandwich, and over $60 for a toy that helps you better your score on the spiderman ride. And people will buy it, and Disney will bring in more money, regardless of how tacky or cheesy the idea is.

Just like $200 lightsabers. People will buy it and Instagram or twit or Facebook or tiktok their experience and think they're amazing.

I fully expect Disney to succeed financially for a long time by continuing to morph into an increasingly souless media giant that delivers generic, dumbed-down experiences as its previous identity—and all the elements that made Disney unique and well-loved in the first place—fade away until there is absolutely nothing left for fans of what Disney once was.
As I look back on the years, I find myself wishing I'd spent more time in the parks 5, 10, or 15 years ago. I wasn't always in a position where I had the time or money to do so, but I see what the parks are becoming and I realize that the best years of the parks are probably behind us. Things are getting so bland and boring that I wonder when I'll lose interest completely. Going to Knott's berry farm brings some reminders of what used to be. Toy guns for sale, culturally insensitive depictions, etc. I like to be a little bit offended, stressed out, excited, and entertained. You're never going to see someone obsess over the details of the frozen ride at epcot the way they do over the haunted mansion. Heck... Even superstar limo has a more interesting backstory. But these days it's all about the lowest common denominator. Bummer.

I have my doubts about Disney's stocks for the future. There are all kinds of things going around politically. Not trying to make this about politics, but Disney has stepped their foot in it and has angered a lot of people. I pray that I'm wrong but, I see Disney and their stock not doing well for awhile. AND I know that I'm going to get "zinged" on this.. but Chapek needs to go as well as Iger in the background. Both have brought great things to the parks, but both have also dropped Disney in places they may not recover from in full. Just my two cents.

That's what we were saying 15 years ago. It wasn't true then and it's probably not true now.

Stocks are pretty disconnected from reality these days. Disney parks have been either closed or at very limited capacity for over a year, Disney has been unable to give full releases to their big movies, and they've generally just lost a ton of money from the pandemic... And yet their stock price is a lot higher than it was before the pandemic. Some of this is the success of Disney+, but it's also skyrocketing inflation and endless government deficit spending that causes stock prices to go up when things are not so good in real life. I think a hamster could be ceo of Disney and the stock would still be near all time highs.

This is really nothing new for them, and because progressive politics tend to become universally accepted as time passes, Disney’s ended up on the right side of history. It’s backwards organizations like the Boy Scouts of America (who Disney hasn’t supported for decades) who are declining because of politics.

Yep. How many people said Disney was over in the 90s because they supported healthcare benefits for same sex partners? Quite a few. Now look where we are.
