From a site that probably can't be named (is there a list of sites I can't name here?), the Build-Your-Own-Avatar Experience is now behind black tarps after going through some fierce discounts.

I am, a bit sad I didn't do it? But I don't think the tech was all that good, just another piece of cool personalized merch being phased out of these immersive lands.

Wonder if that TRON experience is next to get axed....

I’ve always wondered just how popular both experiences are, they’re empty every time I’m there and the price point has never been appealing

Disney would rather close something than have it at a reasonable price. I never entertained it once I saw how much it was. I do hope that those who did it are satisfied, though.

Comparing the Tron and the Avatar "personalized" figures its apples and apples plus buy more apples. For Avatar you get a GI Joe Navi that vaguely looks like your image capture but stretched out and you can play dress up. with 4 sets of accessories. The Tron Identity Program gets you a doll with mapped face scan as well, but adds in 6 recorded phrases and some digital interactivity with value added accessories like a light cycle, identity disk (the glowing ring), and a backpack.

Both are equally popular

This is not the kind of land-, attraction-, or resort-specific merchandise I'm sad to see go. The target market was essentially no one. It's an ugly action figure for an IP not geared toward people in the action figure age demographic. Toys make sense for the animated and Marvel properties. For anything else, they should stick to practical goods like apparel, decor, tablewares, artwork, etc. When people ask for unique offerings, they don't mean that they have to sell completely off-the-wall items; they just need to not sell the same five spirit jerseys and Mickey ears at every shop on property.

Ugh. I would love Pandora themed tablewares and decor. I have a diffuser and it's adorable.

I think I miss it because it's unique, I guess.
