The weekend after Brother Bear opens, the new Looney Tunes movie opens with Brendan Fraser and Steve Martin.......:brick:
Disney better market this movie very well if they want to keep that date.

Is it just me, or does it seem that Brother Bear is just some sort of combination of Lion King and Pocahontas? You take a cast of talking animals (Lion King style), set the background in North America to an old Indian story (Pocahontas) and you get Brother Bear.

The teaser/trailer looks all right, but the best part has got to be Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas (Strange Brew, eh?) cast as two moose.

I am extremely excited about this film. It is very much a combination of Lion King and Pocahantas. I think that Disney put it against the Matrix so they would have an excuse if it didn't do well. Disney pulled all support for Treasure Planet 3 weeks into its release...something they had never done before. If some of you believe that the new Warner Bros. film is going to be a form of competition...think again. Warner Bros. couldn't market a film to save their lives.....one of my favorite animated films of all time is "Cat's Don't Dance"....ever heard of it....for most of you...probably not. It was better than anything else they had cooking at that point and instead they pushed "Anna and the King"...what a waste. Disney is truly going to have to push this film though...if the traditional animation division doesn't start creating cheaper films that do well...Florida and Paris will be closed within 5 years and only a skeleton crew of their best animators will remain in L.A. Management needs to allow the people who have actually worked in the animaton field to do their job and just butt out. Lilo & Stitch is the perfect example....Chris Sanders & Dean DeBlois had everything fleshed out...only very minor details got changed...they left nothing for management to pick apart. Thus...a small budget and a film that families love. Look for it's Special Edition DVD this February.:sohappy:

I don't think the video release of Treasure Planet could have done well enough to offset the high deficit that that film created....it was in development for over 10 years.......:(

A film doesn't have to be number one at the box office to make decent coin. Just my two cents.

Yes, but unfortunately the press does not always get this these days. They make a news story about what is number one, sometimes subtly disparaging any other new releases.
