Broadway-Style "Frozen" Show Coming to DCA - Any impact on WDW?

Aladdin, as it currently is could not play at any theater at WDW. No theater on property has a fly rail like Hyperion's or the fly space for those set pieces. I don't even think Theater in the Wild has one. The automated stage deck was custom built for that show. If they were to bring it to Florida it would have to be seriously downsized.

They were going to replace Aladdin before with a Toy Story show and the fans revolted. This was pre-Cars Land and the Aladdin show was the best attraction in the park. I still argue it's second only to Radiator Springs Racers right now. Look, we all understand that Frozen is an enormous franchise and needs to be in the parks, but how about they actually do it right instead of taking away the best stage show in theme park history or ruining World Showcase?

Edit.... a little surprised my comment on the blog got approved:

The problem with last time was that it wasn't just a Toy Story show... it was planned to be the same Toy Story: the Musical which continues to play on the Disney Wonder, and which frankly, is awful. When you're watching Buzz and Woody sing rock ballads to a chorus of monotone LGMs at Pizza Planet, it feels more you're like having a bad acid dream than watching a musical created by the same company that made The Lion King on Broadway. (It's even more odd because at the time Disneyland made that announcement, the very ship playing Toy Story the Musical was making weekly cruises out of Long Beach not 30 minutes away.... but I digress.)

It was painfully obvious that Toy Story the Musical was created less for its wonderful melodic opportunities than to appease Iger's undying love of the franchise. Even if the intentions are similar, Frozen at least has popular and well-written songs, and can easily be imagined as a musical.

Still, it'll be a shame to see Aladdin go, especially since it likely won't be opened anywhere else. That show was easily the best stage musical in the American theme parks. I certainly would prefer several more years of Aladdin over yet another Frozen attraction, but I'd also take Frozen over trying to shoehorn songs into another Pixar movie that wasn't written for them.

Also remember, Aladdin also recently received the full Broadway treatment with a 2.5 hour production in New York. I knew once that happened that the theme park show's time was limited. I realized BatB on Broadway never forced the Studios' production to close, but the Aladdin show was always on another level. Disney Theatrical is planning a national tour for Aladdin within the next two years or so, so this will probably help them a little bit. Additionally this frozen show will also help Disney Theatricals test the waters and see how Frozen plays on stage as they continue to develop the Broadway production that should open in the next five years or so.

In short, I'm on board with the decision as hard as it is to say goodbye to the wonderful Aladdin show. But hey, it's still on one of the cruise ships!

The aladdin production at DCA is undoubtebly the most impressive show i've ever seen at a theme park. DHS doesn't have a theater even close to that level and it also lacks LA's acting talent pool. I don't think we'll be seeing clones for any shows they plan on putting over there anytime soon. If we do, it will be so scaled down you'll wish they hadn't bothered.

Love this show, would be sad to see it go. With that said, they really need to update shows every few years. 15-20 years is way too long for a show to stay at a theme park. DHS would not seem as stale if these shows had at least changed over the years. You look at current DHS and think "Been there...done that".

Wait - Disneyland is doing something that isn't the best thing ever? Never thought I'd see the day.
Depends on your perspective. I think this is a great move. And I'm not even a big Frozen fan. But I do enjoy fresh entertainment options. I haven't been to DCA since 2002. I would be disappointed to return 13 years later and find the same major entertainment offerings.

As a musical theatre actor myself, I'd just like to point out that Walt Disney World casts most of their actors for stage shows like this from the pool of NYC actors. The actors aren't the problem, it's the bad "stage show writing" and "stage show directing"...

I'm genuinely curious (full disclosure: I've never liked the Aladdin show) - what about it makes you say it's the best stage show in theme park history? Legitimately trying to figure out what it is people like about this show so much, because it completely eludes me. And I'm not trying to pick a fight, genuinely curious as to what you like about it.

I am glad they are changing the show. Aladin has been there long enough. We haven't been to the show in years. It was kind of a once was enough. The only repeat shows I would go to are The Festival of the Lion King and Nemo.

Am I wrong to be encouraged that Disney are announcing new attractions, all be it a show, so close after D23? Why not just announce this then?

I always hold out hope of a surprise announcement for WDW when I log on here.

I think the more interesting question is what is going on with the sing-a-long space at DCA. Would they switch it back to Muppetvision? Or are they going to use that area for the Avengers stuff (as was once rumored) instead of putting it between ToT and Cars Land?

The Muppet space isn't big enough for the Avengers attraction; that will still go behind TOT. I haven't been able to get a straight answer on what will happen to the Muppet space next summer. I think they may be waiting to see if the new TV show takes off, but that's just a guess.

At one point, there was a plan to make a Marvel land in that "backlot" area but I would think it involved getting rid of the Monsters Inc ride as well and using the empty soundstages. Obviously, the old Muppet Theater alone is enough room for much.
