Britney Spears-ABC-Disney TV movie begins shooting in Toronto this week

TORONTO (CP) - Principal photography begins this week on an as-yet-untitled TV movie-of-the-week loosely based on the early life of Britney Spears (news).

The ABC Family/Disney movie, expected to air in the U.S. in April, is based on the book A Mother's Gift, which the pop singing star co-wrote with her mother Lynne. Spears is also a co-producer and as such is expected to pay an onset visit in the weeks ahead, perhaps even do a cameo.

Produced by Lions Gate Television, it tells the story of a gifted young singer from Texas who, despite financial difficulties, gets her big break and shares her rise to stardom with her mom. Nineteen-year-old Lindsey Haun (news) plays the lead character, Holly, and Virginia Madsen plays the mother.

The cast also includes Torontonian Jackie Rosenbaum as Holly's dancer-roommate and Toronto stage actor Barbara Mamabolo.
