Have we got any brits out there on broadband?

I'm considering getting it, but i want to find out some opinions first.

I'm on AOL dial-up just now, but the member benefits for upgrading aren't all that good, and i was considering changing.

Any suggestions?

I'm on broadband and find it fantastic!!!

I am with BT as when I looked at it they were offering a good deal - I got a refund of 3 months fees.

I Know someone else who is with pipex and fine them fine.

What I love as well is the fact that we can be online 24-7 and yet still use the telephone:D

I am currently looking to upgarde to aol broadband :) It seems quite good to me, with the free modem etc.

I agree there are not that many benefits, but i would ideally like to stay with aol because all important emails go to the aol address, and all the exclusive content etc :)

I never use my AOL address (I only ever got sent to it.)

And blueyonders deal looks to be a bit better at the moment. (More for monthly bills, but cheaper installation.)

AOL is my arch nemesis.

Surely anything must be better than that!

Same here! ....and I swear I didn´t ask for it!

I don´t pay anything for my aol email and messenger.... it´s there for free I guess... unless my former roommate decided to cancel her account and I lose mine, but I think that´s not the case, right?

In the UK I can recommend Pipex, Demon and Firstnet for ADSL. I have used them all, and all 3 perform well. :)

I've now just discovered that broadband isn't enabled in my area yet anyway, so looks like I'll have to wait a while.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Which scheme are you on?

Am i correct in thinking with the normal one, you have to pay for your calls?

Does the more expensive one mean you don't?

:D I have had a few people ask me that!

The normal one, is where you pay 27.99 a month..........for broadband!!! You dont pay your call charges though.

AOL BB plus, is where you get aol, AND the dial up connection you have at the moment, where there are no call charges (15.99 a month, but it is discounted). its 34.99 per month. I guess its incase you dont want to use broadband sometimes!?

I am on the normal BB, so if i want to connect to aol on dialup, local rates apply :D

Why would you really want to retain the dial-up service?

Are they expecting the broadband to be down a lot or something?

I can't really see any other reason???

I think it would be incase u used aol in more then 1 location. If you were to use it at work as well, then u could have BB at home, and connect to dial up for free at work, if you see what i mean :)

I have NTL and my brother has Pipex we both find them great .

It does go done occaisionally like last month when a car crashed onto the green box at the end of the street ..........it was fixed in 24 hours which I thought was good considering the mess there was

Mind I'm not recommending NTL for tv abso;utely no way thats always going weird and no car crashed into my TV yet anyways :animwink:

much better than btopenworld (btow)

speed is improved (although nildram have introduced temporary traffic shaping during peak hours whilst they wait for bt to install 2 new pipes)

this may sound bad but for the majority of users it's actually improved overall performance (including mine)

their customer service and tech support is vastly superior to btow

for the same monthly fee i get a static ip address and i use my own router which means i can have more than 1 pc sharing the connection

if you want to compare uk adsl providers please look at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/

the adslguide message boards also provide a huge amount of info and many isp's also contribute to the individual forums
