In my experience, it depends on the TSA agent working the luggage area at the airport.

You should plan on finding your favorite bottle here locally. There are plenty of ABC liquor/Wine shops around town as well as other liquor stores around the world.

While I'm not totally sure about bringing them on airlines...I do know, that in a few states, shipping of alcoholic beverages into the state is not premitted(CT is the only one I know off hand)

That being said, provided you don't live in one of these few states that do not permit shipping of wine, I would just ship it home to be on the safe side.

I found an article at Wine Spectator that said it IS allowed in checked luggage, not in carry ons. http://www.winespectator.com/Wine/Features/0,1197,3377,00.html If it is not an expensive bottle, I'd go for it. I'd wrap it in bubble wrap to help keep it safe though. Just make sure you remember to pack your corkscrew/wine key in checked luggage if it has the little knife on the end. I'm a bartender and forgot my opener was in my purse two weeks ago when I went to WDW and they took it. Doh!

Here is the section of the TSA website that talks about bottled alcohol:
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

You should also check with the particular airline that you are traveling on. Just as an example (because they're my most frequent airline), here is Southwest Airlines' rules:

It shouldn't be a problem, but just to make sure you don't ruin your clothes due to any leakage or cork issues in your suitcase, be sure to wrap and seal each bottle in either a big, clear ziplock bag or other clear bag you can tape up, but agents can still see through...

I brought home 3 bottles of my sister's favorite wine from Italy two years ago with no problem. I carried them on the plane and stored them in the overhead. Maybe the rules have changed? I would check the TSA web-site.

thanx everyone! youre all full of info :) as for finding it down there locally, not possible. only 2 places here carry it, one of which is the melting pot, so that doesnt work. bubble wrap and a ziploc baggie it is! unfortunatly, if i found it down there, i couldnt ship it home anyways. stupid rules. i wouldnt have a problem if i could just order it online, but nooo. i live in maryland. i dont understand that. anyways. thanx again
