I mean.. BRANDY and Whiskers. Sorry. I'm honest, the typos were unintentional. :lookaroun ;)

What do you think of this new show?

Can anyone say NICKELODEON? Say it with me: "Nickel + Oh + Dee + Uhn."

Main Entry: nick·el·ode·on
Pronunciation: "ni-k&-'lO-dE-&n
Function: noun
Etymology: probably from nickel + -odeon (as in melodeon music hall)
1 : an early movie theater to which admission usually cost five cents
2 : JUKEBOX
3: a television station created for children in the 1980s
4: mimicked by the Walt Disney Co. in its most recent kid-directed programming

Don't believe me? Compare the photos:

WHICH IS DISNEY AND WHICH IS NICKELODEON??

HARDER THAN YOU THOUGHT, huh?! :lookaroun

Now, go watch Bland-er-Brat-er-Brandy and Whiskers and just try to tell me that Whiskers isn't Spongebob Squarepants in frisky bunny-eared form.

Besides the similarity in visual character, they act identically. I'm not saying Spongebob is bad, but rather Spongebob is already available and just isn't a Disney character.

Seriously. I gave this show a chance, but it proves to be unDisneyesque, potty-humored, and seriously, it IS Spongebob Squarepants in jungle form with Walt Disney's last name slapped on it.

Can you believe this? Disney once stood by itself in providing the best family entertainment. It told kids "YOU'RE SMART and WORTH SOMETHING." Even Walt Disney himself (ironically, it's called DISNEY'S Brandy and Whiskers") stood against "playing down to kids" -- or even targeting them.

And it isn't going to work here. While in the short term, kids might get a few kicks out of burping and farting, this is already available on every other kid's network. Why can't Disney stick to its guns? Make characters that are actually ORIGINAL? Make cartoons that have worth to draw both parents and kids -- to even see them at theme parks? This show is an insult to intelligence and classic, family entertainment.

Because, frankly, Brandy and Whiskers will never make it that far. They will never be Disney "legends" or "long-time favorites." They will phase off when the series goes off the air with no lasting legacy, no great importance, no Disney magic.

My apologies to those who are fans of Brandy and Whiskers. PLEASE post your opinions, the above are mine (and I suppose a good way to release my day's stress?? ;) ). Let us know what you think the latest Disney Channel show is like.

Well, I have only seen one 15 minute episode of B&W. It was alright. I mean, I don't think it is the next Spongebob. Spongebob is a hilarious show, with some humor and quick wit that you can find nowhere else. B&W probably won't extend beyond the first season.

I really liked Dave the Barbarian though. Sadly, it looks as though it will not return for a second season. I'm predicting the same for B&W. Lilo and Stitch the series is also on hiatus. 1 or 2 cartoons Original cartoons are fine, but when every new show (with the exception of 1) is a cartoon, that's overdoing it a bit.

One thing I wish Disney Channel would of held on to is Even Stevens. That is one of the funniest shows ever.

I agree. "Even Stevens" and "Bear in the Big Blue House" are the only BEARable shows on Playhouse Disney or regular Disney to me. They actually target adults and kids, or at least it gives me that feel. Gotta love Henson.

When I compared Whiskers to Spongebob, I didn't say he was the same or greater, but rather, you can see Disney's attempt to (unsuccessfully) create an Un-Disney character.

This show is a real disappointment. I agree that this sort of show can be found on every other kid channel. Disney needs to think of some serious re-programming.

My opinion is that Disney has too many basic cable channels, period. They end up having to fill them with cheap crap, rather than going beyond the "brand" (blech!) and actually having variety.

As long as they have The Disney Channel AND Toon Disney (AND ABC Family Channel) to fill, but as BASIC cable channels refuse to put "premium" classic Disney productions on them, we will continue to get crap ... and they will continue to wonder why the Disney "brand" is eroding.

Bottom line: Drop Toon Disney, and put variety back on the Disney Channel, including the best cartoons and "premium" Disney classic content. Too much of a good thing just waters it down and makes it less valuable in the long run. And put real family programming on ABC Family Channel, not just ABC "repurposed" crap that doesn't fit.

do not drop toon disney... keep it and fill it with toons.... remove jetex and comeup with more original cartoons for that channel... not the original chennel...

they could always do what nick did... and make another channel for their older shows... in disney's case Disney classic...

Toon disney is good for catching some of the good classic shows i grew up watching... Darkwing duck, goof troop, and a few thers....

Why not "rebrand" Toon Disney with.... WARNING! RADICAL CONCEPT AHEAD!

Classic Disney cartoons!

Nah, there's no money in it. (Boy, am I cynical today...)
