Just to clarify, since I did this for the other team, the billboard and the idol are approved. So, whichever one you choose is okay with the judging staff.

Also, Team B was talking about finding a place to chat, and I gave them a link to a site that Mater runs. It has a chat room that we (Mater, Disneyon, Bam and I) have used to discuss contest-related matters, etc.

I do feel strongly about it, but it's pretty clear I'm in the minority, so I guess we'll go with the billboard. who wants to do the write up for it?

If you really feel that way, we should go with your idea. I mean, there's a reason you are the team leader. You obviously have the best ideas in the eyes of the judges, so in the end, it's up to you. I'll be on board 100% with whatever idea we come up with.

I can do the write up of the billboard if you guys want. We also need someone to do a rendering of what the billboard will look like. (I can't even use Paint to save my life.)

I can work on some mock-ups, unless someone else really wants to do it.

A few questions:
1. Do we want something with one post in the middle or 2-3 as a base?
2. What do we want to see at the base? Tiki, I'm thinking your story can help with this one.
3. Where exactly do we want it to go? I'm thinking at entry to Africa, facing Southwest so that you can see it from Discovery Island and coming from Asia
4. Most important... what should it say? I'm thinking simpler the better as the more detail, the harder it will be to see from a distance. My thought was: "Visit Harambe!" or just "Harambe!" with some graphics around it. EDIT: I'd like to have Swahili worked in as well if all agree.

Depending on when we decide I can get it scanned in at work tomorrow or on Wednesday.

My personal ideas...
1. I always envisioned it as 2 posts with a grass-thatch overhang, so on hot days it will offer some shade. (Even more guests drawn to it!)
2. Somebody mentioned something about that before.
3. I have no idea on that one.
4. See my previous post... I kinda liked that idea. If it's legal, which I think it is, I think that makes it more desirable to walk over to.

EDIT: I don't have a preference as to name, as long as we have a name.

Group, since we don't have a consensus on a design (and it's late) I'll hold off. I'd still love to help, but as I mentioned I have very little free time the next two days. Wednesday is pretty much off limits, so tomorrow night will be my last chance to contribute.

I'll still push 'The Incredibles' as our name though :)

I quite like the overhang idea, since it will, as curcusole said, draw crowds on a hot day and break up the flow a little.

Im thinking we make the base a little overgrown, perhaps a beat up old car (Lancia Beta Couple with no doors or bonnet - if anyone is British they should get that), perhaps a rusty drum or two.

As far as posts go, I like three, odd numbers work well for things like that. I'm thinking reds and mabie some blues for the sign, with big, bold bright lettering, perhaps saying "Welcome to Harambe" with some kind of slogan?

Okay, here's my really weak attempt that I threw together really quick while waiting for a client. Cell phones pics that are really bad:

I wasn't sure if the canopy should come off the top or off of the small platform housing the lights. In the first one the car is on the left, door off, on blocks. Canisters to the left and some foliage all around. I'm going to do my best to get them scanned in at work tomorrow for better reference, but may not have the chance to, which means someone may want to give it a shot :)

Is there anything else I can work on tonight? I'll have some time later to dedicate to the project.

EDIT: and the text reads: "Welcome to Harambe! Karibu Harambe"

Is there any way we could change what the sign says? Instead of "Welcome to Harambe," could we put "Harambe welcomes you"? (Translates to "Harambe anapokea nyinyi") Because I know for a fact that after seeing that sign, my family would be making fun of the Karibu/Carribou for at least the rest of the day. Quite probably the rest of the trip, and beyond. Not to be a downer, but I don't think we want our weenie constantly being made fun of.

I always pictured the overhang coming off of the top. (Like the second drawing.) I also pictured it at eye level, but having it overhead is also a really good idea. The height of the billboard is really the main determinant for where the overhang is.

As much as I agree with not wanting our weenie to be made fun of, I like the less complicated "Karibu Harambe." It's something that kids could be able to repeat without any difficulty.

True, and I'm thinking that the billboard would be a good 25-30 feet off the ground, don't you think? Unless we're going for a HUGE billboard.
