Brad Bird on a Possible Incredibles Sequel
Source: Movies.com October 26, 2011

Though he's taking a turn to live-action with this December's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Brad Bird doesn't plan to abandon the world of animation for long. There's one big project, too, that fans have been asking about and it's one that he says he'd be happy to tackle, just as soon as the story is right: a sequel to 2004's The Incredibles.

Speaking with Movies.com, Bird says that, while he's open to the idea of a followup, he doesn't want to do a sequel for the sake of itself.

“I want to do it because I have something that will be as good or better than the original,” he says. “'Toy Story 2' was, to me, a perfect sequel, because it absolutely respected the first film but found new places to go without selling out its characters. So if I could come up with an idea that is to 'The Incredibles' what 'Toy Story 2' is to 'Toy Story', I would do it in a second.”

Though some time has passed since the first film, Bird admits that he hasn't been actively concentrating on coming up with a plot for a sequel and, though he does have a few good ideas, there's nothing to tie them together yet.

“I would like to think that I have several good ideas that could be incorporated into a next 'Incredibles'," he says, "but I don’t have a whole movie yet, and the last thing I want to do is do it just because it would open big, or something like that.”

I's like to see an Incredibles sequal, but only if it's done carefully.
That's what worries me. While both of the Toy Story sequels were done brilliantly, the Cars sequel was quite a letdown in my book. Not Pixar's finest.

I hope that if an Incredibles sequel is made...it is not Cars 2 all over again.

Of all the Pixar movies, the incredibles is the one most fitting for a sequel in my opinion. I could have done without cars 2 or the new monsters inc. in favor of a new incredibles. I wouldnt mind if they did prequel or sequel, either could be great. The idea of seeing the story of the "old school" supers could be just fantastic.

No more sequels PLEASE! Pixar is such a creative entity and I would hate to see 4 out of the 5 newest (and upcoming) Pixar movies being sequels. They can come up with something more creative! I know they can!

So pretty much what we've heard before. I'm so glad we got the comics. Though Boom losing the Pixar rights lead to the ending arc being cancelled, they were still a very worthwhile follow-up to the film.

I would much rather have an Incredibles sequel than Cars 2 and Monsters Inc. Its so much more deserving since it left many ends open while the other two didn't.
