So I am hearing a lot about this new shop at the Polynesian Resort. Will it be the only shop at the Polynesiacn now or are the other stores still open like Wyland, News from Paradise, etc? I guess I am somewhat in the dark as to what changes are actually taking place at the Polynesian Resort's GCH.

Thanks for any info. I love this hotel!

^Cool! Thanks for the link to those photos of both the new shop and the test-room design. The new room design looks very nice, much better than the current design. I love the use of dark woods, the frame around the beds and the hallyway and that mural on the one wall. Looks very nice. I saw that site said the have plans to re-do the rooms starting this summer. Does anyone know if the plan on doing this design to all the rooms at Poly and if so how long the entire rehab should take?

Also, does anyone know what the new Contemporary room design looks like and when that rehab is expected to start and/or be completed?

I am hearing sometime in 2007 as the date for the completion of the Contemporary renovation. Glad to see these 2 great original hotels getting the TLC they need and deserve.

Darn! We missed it by a day. A few times the gate was opened, and it didn't look like anything super special, or rather, seemed like the same stuff you could get elsewhere (Quiksilver, Roxy, Park stuff, etc)

Aha! The article says that Opels were used as the basis for the stunt show cars. When we were there (per opening) I was checking out the display car outside trying to determine its origin. The CM assured me quite vehemently that the Imagineers had built the cars from scratch and that they weren't based on anything. Because I knew the Paris cars were Opels. But he wouldn't budge from his statement. Now I know.

No, the Wyland Gallery is over closer to Capt. Cooks. The store upstairs in the GCH will remain, but the stores downstairs (Polynesian Princess? and News from Polynesian) will be gone and Capt. Cooks will be expanded.

Too bad about the TIKIMAN site.....

He really was the ULTIMATE resource for all things Poly!

Hopefully the site will remain in an archival state even if he does not continue to update it any longer.

Best of Luck and MANY THANKS to TIKIMAN for the great info!
He will be missed!

This is the story of my life. I just met Tikiman here, he was giving me great advice and now he's retired. :brick: I'm sure there will be others who can answer questions as my trip approaches. I hope Tikiman got to retire to a deluxe Concierge Suite at the Poly. :king:

Tikiman is gone. Noooooo! I loved that website since I am a Poly super-fan. I am going back in August so I guess I can be patient and check out Bou-Tiki then, but my curiosity is getting the better of me and I would really like to see the photos. I keep getting "website temporarily unavailable" when I go to the tikiman site so I am hoping that it I might be able to view later and allearsnet only has two photos of the Bou-Tiki sign. Anyone have photos of their own or another website that might have them? I am curious to see all the progress in the GCH. Thanks :)

Hi!! Just wanted to share with you fellow fans of tikiman's Poly site that he has been having problems with his site being attacked by rude people. Someone started a thread devoted to him and his site asking where he was and he came online to explain what happened. Don't forget to let Steve aka tikiman know how much you love his site.

And here's the link to tikiman's explanation of what happened.
