Trip Report ***BOOM, DONE***No, Its not Déjà vu. It’s just that time of year again…the 20th surf ’n turf part deux. And we’re live now!

You were with us for the 16th, 17th, the epic bungalow 18th, the 19th, and the 20/40 so why not...do it again.

I went back and forth on covering this one, TR fatigue has been biting me in the butt lately. I figured, though, that with the amount of new things we are considering for this trip it may be worthwhile to give it another go. With that, lets get the formalities out of the way for the newbs:

Who: @imahistorygeek and myself
PhotoPass_Visiting_STUDIO_411483977463.JPG

What: Surf 'n turfing a 4-night Disney Dream
When: Oct. 20 -27
Where: AKL, Dream, AKL
Why: Well, going to the bubble in the Fall for our anniversary has kinda grown on us. We will be at sea for our actual 20th!

As I alluded to we had some decisions to make for this trip like:
Drive or Fly
Palo or Remy
MNSSHP or Jiko
Get off at Nassau or Stay on the boat?
Homecomin' or Homecomin'

Watching The Muppets Movie now as I write this... can you really watch this without singing!?!? A filet of fish, hey!

Mas details to follow, like how many have signed up for the beer exchange!

It was pâté...foam pâté. I can eat almost any food. I tried this. The gag reflex was strong. The taste wasn't bad. I couldn't handle the texture. My brain said meat and my mouth said foam. My brain couldn't handle what was happening. I hate eggs and I'd eat a lifetime of eggs before I'd eat that again.

The wagyu beef was just odd. Looked like beef, tasted like beef, but again, the texture bothered me. I can't describe the texture, but from what I've read, that's part of the appeal.

(Too bad they didn't have a Burger King on board that you could have escaped to!) :hilarious: I read your explanation above and got a big chuckle out of it.

Truthfully, sometimes chefs can get a bit "too" creative at times, and actually miss the mark . . . :jawdrop:

Like pretty much every night on DCL we slept great, love those beds! We had a day at sea today so would be modifying our typical breakfast ritual. Knowing the pool area chairs would fill fast we made for deck 11 to claim some spots. Along the way we had to stop to enjoy the beautiful day that was starting up for us!

Rather than being a couple of jerks who toss a couple of towels down on chairs then not come back for a few hours we opted to go to Cabanas and grab some breakfast togo and enjoy it pool side. Got to enjoy some more towel art too
IMG_4197.JPG

IMG_4198.JPG

After an hour or so this happened. We were, IMO, in the perfect spot to enjoy this piece of magic. It was a great indicator for how our day was going to go!

It wasn't long before I was moving on to my next exchange pull, this one from Brazil!
IMG_4200.JPG

Ton of flavor for a lite beer really good! A little buttery with a hint of banana 3.75/5

After a few hours it was time for lunch so I went to the room to grab another exchange beer before hitting Cabanas for lunch. When I entered the room I got the idea that Kavin had been there.
IMG_4201.JPG

Made my way to Cabanas to get some togo plates and made for our pool chairs again, beer at the ready.
IMG_4202.JPG

Alpenflo by sixpoint brewery
Mildly flavored water. 2.25/5

After a few hours more of pool time it was late afternoon and we had some plans this evening that included the BatB stage show so we made for our room but did a little shopping first and grabbed a pic with the pumpkin tree.
IMG_4203.JPG

We needed a little caffeine boost to aid us with the rest of the day so we ordered some room service coffee, chocolate chip cookie, key lime pie, and the traditional Micky bar! Sugar buzz here we come!
IMG_4204.JPG

Omg that sunrise is absolutely beautiful! I've been meaning to ask, but was y'alls room located on the back of the ship like it was last time? (kind of looks like it)
Yes sir! This was room 7194 and was essential the same room/veranda that we had on The Fantasy just one deck lower. Here are the views while we enjoyed our coffee and sugar bombs, still such a beautiful day.

So we finished our snacks, took a shower, and made our way up to 687 to grab a drink to take to the theater. I went with the Alltech Kentucky Bourbon Ale, I've had this a few times and its decent enough
IMG_4208.JPG

As I mentioned earlier, we were here for the Beauty and the Beast stage show.
IMG_4210.JPG

IMG_4209.JPG

IMG_4211.JPG

This was a great show but we are not allowed to take any pictures. One thing that I thought was exceptionally cool is at the end of the show they actually use a cruise quest to play the human "Chip". They dressed a guest in the proper costume and had him run onto the stage to met Mrs. Potts right at the end during the reunions. Talk about a magical moment for one guest!

After the show we made for our room since it was still too early for our dining rotation. Kavin was at it again
IMG_4212.JPG

Tonight's dining rotation was at Enchanted Garden. We each went with the usual salads for apps. I requested the fried brie from Royal Palace and Steeven made it happen! As is par, I had the pork medallions but the DW broke tradition and went with the prime rib, which she really enjoyed! Once again Steeven brought more magic tricks for the tables and one more crayon brain teaser puzzle for us. This might have been our best service team to date, they were great! TR was a no show again so TV and us had a great time talking about all sorts of things from band, their band folks too, to future cruises and Disney trips. They had the same plan we did this evening, a night at Evolution, so we made for the adult district but not before saying goodbyes to our crew
IMG_4213.JPG

IMG_4214.JPG

I was concerned a late night at Evolution would have us not getting to see Kavin again so we made a small detour to our room so we could bump into him, say our thanks, and grab a pic.
IMG_4215.JPG

He is definitely top 2 in stateroom host ranks for me.

So on to Evolution! Tonight’s funtivities started out with a Battle of the Sexes version of Family Feud. #tonyfromspain gave the guys a long speech prior to the game of the poor track record the men had in this game during his tenure as host. He did not have high hopes for us today. He then was proud to announce that his rubber poultry friend would be assisting us during the game. I’m happy to say the dudes smashed it took home the victory.

The next game was a music trivia challenge but this time the room was split into haves and pitted the right side of the house against the left side. It was a another fun event that conclude with me picking #tonyfromspain up in a fireman’s carry and carrying him down to the floor so our team could crowd surf him around Evolution, fun times!

It was around 11:00 now and the next event was the Silent Disco. This was our first time trying this experience out. Essentially everyone gets a pair of headphones that has three different channels that the DJ is playing. You get to pick the style of music you want to have playing and disco your heart out. The cool, or weird, part is Evolution is absolutely silent for this so you could be jamming out to your music and pop off your headphones and hear nothing but your cruisemates singing…poorly. It was so funny! We had a great time! I grabbed a few selfies along the way

TV was having a blast as well!
IMG_4221.JPG

We discoed until about midnight and decided to head to turn in. We stepped outside and said our goodbyes to TV and grabbed a few group shots before our final goodbye. TV were great cruisemates and I wouldn’t mind sharing a table with them again in the future!

Sad to say it was time to leave. We had another great night of sleep. We left our tagged luggage outside to be taken to customs and hit the hay, hard! We were up around day break gathered our things and made for Enchanted Gardens for breakfast.
IMG_4226.JPG

IMG_4227.JPG

IMG_4228.JPG

IMG_4229.JPG

The ship was hopping with eager guests. Since our DCL bus did not leave util 09:00 we had a little time to relax. After breakfast we disembarked, collected our bags, and won the "randomly selected customs" game! WE still had over 30 minutes til our bus time so I felt good we would be ok until I realized we might have had the slowest agent ever who liked to ask us the same question over and over and over again. It really felt like she was trying to trip us up so she could detain us longer. Anyhow, after she touched every single item in all our bags we were allowed to go and still had time to spare when we hit the bus!
IMG_4232.JPG

Ans soon we were back in the bubble heading for AKL.

After arriving at AKL we checked to see if our room was ready, it wasn't. We dropped our bags off with bell service and had one goal in mind; passholder magnets. We caught the bus to EC and couldn't believe the traffic waiting to get into the park, even for resort buses. We probably waited 10-15 in the bus lane just to pass through the gate. Soon we would be walking under the golf ball taking in the EC madness. We made our way to the event center and got what we came for and stayed for the beer!
IMG_4235.JPG

Naturally, Disney provided plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your food and beverage but we like to be trendy and chose to use a trash can #sarcasm.
IMG_4238.JPG

We grabbed a pair of flights so we could try a few new beers, we had already had 2 of them from previous trips but it made fiscal sense to get a pair of flights rather than the individual pours...I cant believe I just used fiscal sense when talking about something Disney. Anyway, on to the beer!

So after we fulfilled our magnet goal we decided to head over to MK for some lunch and a few rides. The monorail ride over was uneventful and we were soon walking down main street.
IMG_4244.JPG

We made a leisurely stroll through tomorrow land and settled on Friar Nook's for lunch. We grabbed a brat & tots to share and some waters. Once again we were faced with an over abundance of places to sit and enjoy our food. There were so many wonderful trashcans to choose from but we ultimately settled on Pinocchio Village Haus to enjoy our lunch.

IMG_4248.JPG

After lunch we made our way over to Frontierland for a BTM ride, yes I need a haircut.
IMG_4249.JPG

We then made our way to PotC which was hopping despite a 20 minute posted wait. About 10 minutes into the queue we noticed the app showing the ride was down. We waited another 5 minutes then decided to leave. We jumped on a Jungle Cruise which was a true 20 minute wait. The skipper was well versed and we had a great trip. When we exited we noted that Pirates was still down so we made for the exit via the gift shops. While looking over the goods we got the text that our room was ready so headed for the buses. Our room was once again at Kidani and had the same layout as before but a slightly different view

We relaxed for a bit and caught up on some classwork and emails. It was during this time that I received an email from Guest Services.
[rewind a bit]
During our day at sea about 24 hours ago I had written to GS about our MNSCHP experience. As my DW can attest I was most polite in my email to GS and I simply pointed out our experience which included both Pirates and Space Mountain being down for over 2 hours each at the same time, the ridiculous number of people at the event, and extremely long waits for everything. I closed my email with compliments to how impressive the parade and fireworks were. I never once hinted at wanting a refund for the experience nor demanded any kind of restitution.
[/rewind a bit]

So the email I received from guest services apologized for our experience and refunded our party tickets while also providing us with 2 FP for anything we wanted in HS. The gesture was nice but the laziness of the delivery was almost comical. The CM, Joan, was clearly working from a canned response sheet for complaints as it was obvious she copied and pasted the whole sheet of possible responses but forgot to delete the responses she didn't need! Here is the response we got:
Joan from Disney said:
Dear Mr. Pro9het,

Thank you for your email regarding your recent experience at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party last Sunday, October 21st.

I am so very sorry to learn of your disappointment with the crowds and that you had long waits and down times for some of the attractions that evening. I would like to assure you that the safety of our Guests and Cast is our top priority. As such, we have an established number of Guests that we can allow into our Theme Parks and carefully monitor the number of Guests who are enjoying the Park at any one time.

In an effort to assist you with a courtesy credit for $200.22 for the cost of your event tickets, please visit any one of our five Guest Relations locations and present your photo ID and Case ID Number ABC123. Our Guest Relations Team will be able to assist you further.

Since it will take a little time out of your evening to visit Guest Relations, I have added two Non Inventory FastPasses to your MyDisneyExperience account for you to use this evening at Disney's Hollywood Studios. You do not need to do anything with them and they are available for any attraction during regular theme park operating hours.

Should you have any questions, you are welcome to reply to this message or call me at 407-934-7527. Typically, I am in the office Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. ET. Today, I am in the office until 6 p.m.

Mr. Pro9het, it is my sincere hope you are enjoying your afternoon with us.

A short bus wait and a short bus ride later and we were passing through the construction zone on our way to HS. We had to stop by GS first to grab our gift card for MNSSHP. GS was moving fast and we were soon heading towards Toy Story Land.
IMG_4254.JPG

We did a quick walk through before the cruise to check the lay of the land out but didn't ride anything. Armed with two open FPs we would most definitely be leaving after riding something. We had late dinner reservations at Sanaa today and the DW was jonesing for a snack. We pulled into Andy's Lunch Box to take care of that craving.
IMG_4255.JPG

We went with the kids grilled cheese and a Blue Moon, probably a strange order for the CM to get.
IMG_4256.JPG

While we enjoyed our snack the party platoon was out entertaining the crowd.
IMG_4258.JPG

IMG_4261.JPG

Since we struck out with Slinky Dog FPs before the trip we decided to use one of our open passes for it.
IMG_4262.JPG

IMG_4263.JPG

The ride was cute but was on par with SDMT as far as exciting and ranks slightly higher than Barnstormer. The launch portion of the ride was a let down. I was genuinely excited as the count down was happening and as soon as we launched I was so in to it until we immediately hit that first hill and slowed down to a crawl. Great kiddie ride but that is it. Not sure I'd ever invest a FP or an hour wait for this one.

We looked over the saucers and decided to pass on that one and used our second FP for TSMM.
IMG_4264.JPG

IMG_4265.JPG

We had two other FPs we scheduled a while back so we made for RnR and ToT to close our night.
IMG_4267.JPG

We made for the buses and didnt wait long at all. We were back at AKL before we knew it. As we returned we a still had an hour til our ADR time so I swung by Sanaa to see if they could get us in earlier. She checked us in and said she would text when they were ready for us. Since our room was literally 5 floors above Sanaa, we went back to the room until we got the text.

How long does it normally take from the time you disembark the ship to when you get to AKL? And how long does it usually take until you get a room ready text? After our cruise next year, we're staying at AKL for the first time using DVC points. I'm trying to plan out that Friday but I don't have a time frame for when things should be done. Are rooms normally ready after 4pm? I would like to eat at Sanaa for lunch but will go to Disney Springs if there will be a long wait.

My Remy thoughts:

I'd read so many accounts that this was the best food people had ever eaten in their entire lives.

It did not live up to that hype. The food was very good and the whole Remy experience (the presentations and pacing of food) was excellent. I did learn that while French food is good, it's not my favorite. Palo is superior in food, but Remy is all about the experience. I believe my favorite parts of the meal were the champagne beginning, the cheese course, and the desserts. The regular food was very good, but a little too many things with sauces. My favorite was one of the fish dishes and least favorite was wagyu beef. I wish we had a picture of the wine. I would definitely drink it again. The Miel dessert listed above was honey (and made to look like honeycomb) and almond ice cream. It was very good and I'm not crazy almond-flavored food.

It's worth a try, especially for the experience, but like Sean, it's a one and done. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think this has stopped me from wanting to dine at V&A. From what I've read, the food is similar.
I'm lucky enough to have gone to Italy (Florence, Chiavari & Rome) and Paris. The food (and wine) we had in Italy was better than in Paris. We did a lunch at a Michelin rated restaurant in Paris and I did not think it was worth the cost. My favorite meal through both those trips was our last night in Italy at a small restaurant in Trastevere (sp?). I had rabbit which was awesome, and our waiter refused to sell us anything but their house wine which came out in unlabeled bottles. It was 5 euros and tasted as good as anything I've had.

On our one cruise, we did Palo and really enjoyed it. Your review is helpful for planning for any future cruise we take.

The time it normally takes us to disembark and make it through customs is about 10 minutes. The trip from the port to AKL via Disney Bus was about an hour. The time it takes your bus to leave the port varies based on how many people are using the Disney buses. If you catch the first bus out of the port you can plan on being at AKL before 11:00.
The room ready text also varies. Some trips our room is ready by the time we get there some times its closer to 3-4 o'clock. Go ahead and get an ADR for Sanaa at lunch. You'd be safe with a 12:00 ADR. Are you staying at Kidani or Jambo?

I'm lucky enough to have gone to Italy (Florence, Chiavari & Rome) and Paris. The food (and wine) we had in Italy was better than in Paris. Closing this report out with dinner. So we waited a few minutes in our room when I got the text that our table was ready so we took the elevator down to Sanaa. For the most part Sanaa has been fairly consistent despite the price increases and changes to how you can order the bread service and Potjie Inspired dish. Tonight was the busiest I remember ever seeing Sanaa for dinner. We started things out with a few drinks. The DW went with a whiskey breeze. and I went with a bourbon flight. The flight included Angel's Envy, Maker's Mark, and Woodford Reserve.
IMG_4269.JPG

IMG_4270.JPG

Cant come to Sanna and not get the bread service, amiright?
IMG_4268.JPG

Tonight's slow cooked meal included the butter chicken and the lentils. We requested an extra order of jasmine rice to go with it as well.
IMG_4271.JPG

As is usual, the food was great. We spent the rest of the evening enjoying our drinks and lamenting the end of another fantastic trip.

Again, overall, another fantastic trip. The weather was great the whole week and we realized we got a little spoiled when we landed in the ATL to walk out into 40 degrees wearing shorts and t shirts. Homecomin is still fantastic and I cant recommend it enough. MNSSHP, outside of the parade and fireworks, was a bit "meh" for us and is a one and done I think. Cant say anything but the cruise was the highlight of our trip. #tonyfromspain is like family now, my long lost Massachusetts cousin! Now that we've done 3, 4, and 7-night cruises I think the perfect boat trip length, for us, might be a 5-nighter that opens and closes with a day at sea. We will get to test that theory out in October as we sail out of NYC on the Magic for Bermuda! We scored another great aft veranda room on opening day. This will also finish our goal of sailing on all the DCL ships, at least until the next two come out. While we decompressed from the trip we sorta came to the conclusion to let our APs expire in June and put those funds towards more boat trips. Maybe some absence will bring us back in.

We do have some things in the works til then. We're kicking tires on 4-5 days in late May right now. We also have a week booked starting on New Year's Day in a 1-bedroom at BCV. The kid is actually looking forward to that trip as we said we would do the Epcot Aqua Seas Tour again and booked it last week.

But then there is next week...actually just 5 days out! My airplane fearing DW will brave the flight to Anaheim for our first ever visit to The Original! The Pro9het family will be crashing Disneyland for the week of Thanksgiving. We'll fly in suuuuper early Sunday morning and fly back Friday afternoon. We'll spend the first night in a Paradise Pier Hotel theme park view room. before transferring to the Grand Californian for the rest of the week. We grabbed a few ADRs for Steakhouse 55 and Blue Bayou and will wing the rest of the food. We are still debating maxpass but are tempted by the photopass and ease of fast passes.

That's about it! My apologies for the grammar, fuzzie selfie's, and less than pixie dust perspective. JUST 5 DAY LEFT!

Another great trip report! I can't believe your next trip is in 5 days! Sounds like the perfect way to recover from a cruise. Lol
