Booking thru Disney vs. Expedia

Is there any reason I should book directly through disneyworld.com instead of saving $50 a night on our room by going with Expedia? It shows the same amenities (identical). Is there anything I'd be losing if I save money going with Expedia?

First time going, bringing our 6-year-old, who is over the moon excited and ready to go!:p

I booked through Expedia once for a Myrtle Beach vacation. We didn't have any problems, but it was room only of course. I guess I'd only go through Disney or perhaps Kingdom Konsultants. These folks are more helpful in "planning" your Disney vacation. Good Luck!

I am considering using them as well for my trip. I have seen a lot of good things on this site about them. And it seems to me if you are keeping a bunch of Disney nuts happy, they must be doing something right. Although am not sure about who is the best agent to use.

I have used Expedia several times, and I don't ever recall having any major issues. But never for a big trip like WDW. I have only used them for rooms. And honestly, it has been years since I have done that. Nowadays, I find you often get better deals directly from hotel websites. So I look at Expedia and the like for being able to get an idea about prices for a lot of hotels in a certain area. Any in which I am actually interested, I go to that hotel's website and look at the prices there. I also use this with airlines and Orbitz or Kayak (although SW and Jet Blue don't list; you still have to go to their websites).

As much as I have not had issues with Expedia and the like, I don't think I would ever use them for a trip to Disney. Too big of a trip and I feel somehow more prone to issues. I think I would use AAA again before going the Expedia route. I would rather be able to deal with the CMs or travel agents rather than Expedia if something goes wrong. Having problems with a hotel room in "City X" is completely different from having your WDW ruined.
