Booking for Sept 2015

Question for you all, or more like i need opinions. I am planning a trip for Sept 2015, and the 499 days out just opened up so technically I can book room only reservations now for Sept, do you suggest I do that or wait until Mid July when packages and rates are released for 2015? I have been to disney several times, but this time we are planning on booking two rooms ( 1 for me, my husband and our baby- not born yet, due in Sept) and one room for my dad. We usually do room only reservations but contemplating a package. What is everyones thoughts?

Rates Will be the same if you book now VS then the only difference is the free dining plan will be out or a room discount that you can add on later! Congrats I am there every september as well!!

The only reason you would need to book at 499 days out would be if you are looking for a very popular, very rare room type during a very busy time of year.

If you are looking for a club level, theme park view at the Contemporary for the week between Christmas and New Years...book at 499 days.

If you want a standard room at PORS for sometime in September...you are generally fine waiting until packages are released.

I have a friend who claims the following story is true. I can't vouch for it myself, but here it is anyway.

She and her husband booked their vacation more than a year in advance. 499 days sounds about right. By the time the packages rolled around, Disney had raised the prices so much that even with the free dining discount, they saved more money sticking to their original, undiscounted plan than if they switched to the free dining offer.

Didn't sound right to me. But there it is for what it's worth.

Not likely. As I understand it, when you book that far out...which is before room rates are even released...You are billed the highest rate for the current year. You total is then adjusted when rates are released.

Booking prior to the room rates for that year coming out will require (I believe) one night deposit at the current rack rate. Then when the rates get announced (August-ish usually I think) your room/package price will be adjusted to the newly announced rates and you will have to pay the remainder based on whatever the difference is. As @Master Yoda already pointed out, unless you are trying for a prime time at a very limited room type you should be able to wait.

I can see this applying only if there was a large ticket price increase. Room rates typically don't change mid year, and even though tickets & dining have gone up, I can't say that either (or both) has gone up enough to make that much of a difference. Maybe $50-100 per person on a multi day ticket, but undiscounted vs free dining seems off. If they did book a package and Disney raised the rates, then yes, they would have indeed been locked into their earlier price.

As the story was being told, I just nodded politely while tyring to keep my face from revealing that I though she was full of it. I have this reaction to a lot of this friend's stories.

Thanks for myth-busting.

No problem at all . I use to love listening to those when I was a Disney TA and the people who were spinning the yarn did not know it.

The "busted" look on their faces when I told them was simply priceless.

Sure!
Pop is an awesome resort I have stayed there quite a few times. Your son/daughter will love it. Make sure you bring lots of sunscreen for the baby and enjoy your time don't rush. Are you going to all the parks? Are you using baby swap which is a ride your child can't go on ( tower of terror ) for example You wait in line while your wife has the baby and you ask for a child swap pass then when you are done with the ride your wife can go on thought he fast pass line so she doesn't have to re wait.

Wife has some issue with child swap, she doesn't like to ride alone, don't blame her. we are staying for 8 nights, got 6 day park tickets, I'm a little scared also with humidity and the whole weather since we've never been to florida, it was the next step, since I have mastered disneyland vacationing. and love and hate this feeling of not knowing :)

hopefully I can either convince my wife to child swap, convince some friends to join us, or make new worth-trusty friends .

also we are used to staying inside the resort, or walking distance, so this will also be different, no car either. hoping we don't forget to pack everything needed.

Congrats on your baby! In my opinion, you should book it now. You can most likely change to that discont or rate when it comes out in the summer of this year.
