Booking Early

If I book in advance and then check back at a later time and the price is lower, I can try to get that price???

What have you found to be the cheapest in booking??? has it been cheaper directly from Disney or would you recomend using another source such as expedia or orbitz???

thanks so much!!!

(this kind of goes along with my "trip booking" thread, posted earlier)

You can book early and when a discount comes out you can usually have the discount applied to your reservation.

While booking through expedia or orbitz can be a money saver, when there is a problem with the reservation, you are kind of left on your own. Disney will not really assist you as you booked through another agency. Going through a travel agent is kind of a safety net for you. Since it is just you and your friend going, it may be nice to have a "friend" helping you out. Just a thought.

We always save a little by booking through an agent as opposed to using a web site. We have always used Disney.com as a base figure. If you want to go to the all-stars, sometimes it is better to wait (unless it will be peak season) because they are always offering specials on these hotels. Right now they have a $55 a night deal going on. It wouldn't hurt to research any events that may be planned for the time that you want to go. That will give you some idea of when to book.
I hope this helps a little

MouseSavers.com - go there. Read it, know it, live it. :)

In answer to your question, the best thing to do is book directly through Disney. I can't remember which one does, but most of those discount travel sites do not do on-site Disney (I know at least one does...).

If you book yourself through Disney, you have the power to call and change ressies/etc. at any time. I highly reccomend that if you think you will be applying a discount code later to NOT book online. If you book "in person" over the phone whatever deposit you put down can be picked up and applied to another resservation very easily. I did this my last trip - I booked the room as soon as I had my dates, and waited for the right code to come up. My initial deposit was higher of course (equal to one nights accomodation), and that's where I ran into a snafu.

When you book online, you CANNOT change your ressie without actually cancelling it. This meant that they couldn't just transfer the money they took off my credit card for the more expensive ressie and just apply it to the new one - I had to be refunded the initial deposit and make a brand new one.

I also had a problem with getting that refund which I detailed in a thread here - it took several calls and a couple of weeks to get my money back for the cancelled ressie (they even lost the refund at one point).

However, any time I have just called and booked over the phone it's painless - they have a lot more power to change things than with online ressies. Plus, you can still pay by check if you desire, which gives you two weeks to make the deposit which can be helpful as well. :)

Expedia also charges your credit card for the whole cost at the time of booking. I think you also can't cancel and get a refund. I prefer calling Disney to booking online, but the website is very useful for info. I really like the new virtual tour feature.

In the past I was able to re-book a room at a lower rate just fine, but I have heard that this doesn't always work smoothly. Disney only sets aside so many rooms at the discounted rate, so if the rooms at that rate are gone, they are gone.

I cant agree more with what everyone else has said. I use Kingdom Konsultant for my bookings and Pam has always been good for me. She has been able to change my ressies as needed and always gets me the lowest discounted rate I qualify for ( usually Annual Passholder discount) If you are going to use a travel agent I recommend her, If not deal with Disney directly yourself.
