Booking changes with PIN

Forgive me if this has been questioned and answered, but I am getting ready to book our room, and don't have a lot of time to look (as I'm getting ready for work). I received a PIN for 40% off or whatever, and am planning a trip for us in December, (me, my Disney veteran 8 year old, my very soon to be husband-which it will be his first trip, and my 18 yo sister for a grad present). It expires Monday, so I need to book FAST! Right now, with the wedding/honeymoon still in the works, we are unsure of how much we will be able to allot for this trip, and we are tentatively planning Riverside. However, if feasible, I would like to surprise them with an "upgrade" but will I be able to do that after I book? Like with the PIN? Or the other way around? If I book a Deluxe, can I "downgrade" later if need-be? What should I do?

I think you should book the one you can afford right now. The PIN codes are only good if there is availability at the resort, so if they set aside 10 rooms for one PIN code offer, then once those 10 rooms are booked up with people using their PIN code, then the resort is no longer available for the offer. Does that make any sense? So, if it were me, I would book the one I knew I could afford right this minute. Infact, that is what I am doing either today or tomorrow. Good Luck! (and ask your question to the CM who books your trip, they will have the answer)

As a general rule of thumb upgrading will be easier than down grading. Disney is much more willing to wave change and cancellation fees when you are spending more money. The only road block you stand to run into is availability but, that would be the same regardless if you are upgrading or downgrading. In conclusion....book the less expensive option.

Would you still get the PIN offer on the new reservation if the booking window has expired? Do you get it as long as you booked the initial reservation during the booking window?

Something else I just thought of, if I make the reservation now, it will be in my maiden name. By the time we go, it will have changed. Is that going to be a problem to change it? Will I have to change the name on my reservation, or will they just assume that it is me?

You will want to change it but it is not a big deal at all.
