Booking ADRs on "My Disney Experience"

Back in March, I made a room only reservation for All Star Movies for May 24-June 3 2015. However, I have since found an off property condo for a much cheaper rate and have decided to stay there instead. I chose to retain my booking for ASM until I get to my 180 day mark so I can still make my dining reservations using the 180+10 perk available for resort guests. Once I clear the 180 day marks for every day of my stay, I will cancel my resort reservation.

My question is this: I have always understood that if you cancel your room booking, it would have no effect on your ADRs, since they are totally seperate bookings. However, if I book my ADRs using the "My Disney Experience" website, then I am concerned that it may have my ADRs linked up with my Resort Reservation account number, such that when I cancel my resort, it will automatically cancel the ADRs along with it. Is this a valid concern, or can I still book 180+10 on the website, and then cancel my resort and still retain my ADRs? Of course, I will wait a couple weeks before cancelling so as to make sure that every one of my ADRs is within 180 days. But I just want to make sure that I can book at the "My Disney Experience" website and not lose my ADRs when I cancel my resort.

Telephone booking ?

That's what I have been planning on doing, but I was told that if I book on "my disney experience", I can do it right at midnight, rather than having to wait until the phone lines open at 6 AM EST. But again, I am afraid that if I do it under "My Disney Experience", that if I have it linked up with my room only ressie, then it might automatically cancel my ADRs whenever I cancel the room only. I have always understood that I don't have to worry about that when booking over the phone, but since the "My Disney Experience" is new, I just wanted to make sure that it would work about the same way as booking over the phone.

Your 180 day ressie booking window doesn't open up at midnight. You can start booking ADR's at 6 am on the MDE and the phone lines open at 7 am. It is your FP+ booking window that opens up at midnight. I hope you realize that if you cancel your on-site room that you sacrifice being able to book FP's 60 days out and will have to wait until 30 days.

I can't help you with whether your ressies will be cancelled with your room cancellation, but I would have to agree that a phone call to book would be the best way to confirm everything.

Your dining reservations will not be cancelled if you cancel your room reservation, only if you ask them on the phone to do so. They are based on a totally different system. I cancelled my trip about 75 days out and just cancelled all my ADRs I had made at the 180 day mark a week before my vacation was scheduled to commence.

I had thought about that, too, and had thought about possibly holding only my room only ressie until my 60 day mark so I can book fastpasses 60 days out. Presumably, I would need to wait another 30 days after that to cancel (when I am 30 days out) so as not to lose my fastpasses. But the same question still applies: if I book fastpass reservations 60 days out, under my resort reservation, then will they be linked to my resort reservation such that they will disappear when my resort reservation disappears? Again, I realize that you have to be a resort guest in order to book fastpass 60 days out, so I expect that if I were to book fastpasses and then cancel my room the next day, then my fastpasses would disappear as well, as I would no longer be booked at a resort and would therefore be ineligeable to have fastpasses more than 30 days out. But even if I cancelled my room only at 15 days out, would I still lose my fastpasses since they would be linked to my hotel stay which no longer exists?

I am not really sure, but that is something that you would have to chance. Somebody who is more familiar with everything Disney would be able to help more.

The FP I don't know about however, I would assume a long as u had your own tickets linked on there and not a package, so your tickets would stay regardless of canceling, your FP might stay?

I just read on another site that a family lost their fastpasses (unfortunately the coveted 7DMT) when they made a change to their resort reservation. Therefore it seems likely that a room cancellation would also result in disappearing fastpasses. If you are not planning to stay on-site, you should play it safe and book your fastpasses at 30 days.
