Boma or Sanaa

Hi was thinking of trying somewhere new to eat in October and as we've never been into the AKL, we were thinking of eating there. I see Boma do buffets for around $35 per head, whilst Sanaa has a menu with mains under $20 per person.

My wife's a rather fussy eater (doesn't like curry or spice at all) so firstly I wondered if either would be suitable and if so, which one is best value for your money? I realise taste is subjective, however maybe there's some other 'less adventurous' eaters on here who found these restaurants good?

Thanks in advance as always :)

Well my friend, if Mrs. Merg is a fussy eater that complicates things for either place. We spent a week at AKL-Kidani a few months ago and ate at both BOMA and Sanaa a couple of times and both are excellent choices for adventurous eaters. The bread service with all nine accompaniments at Sanaa is one of the best things I have ever had, but mostly very spicy. Over at AKL Jambo, we love BOMA and she will probably find a few things more to her liking, but not trying some of the more unusual offerings would, in my opinion, be a waste of money. BOMA has an amazing selection of soups that are so good. The Mulllitagawny Soup being our favorite.
For me personally, if someone who is a fussy eater who doesn't like curry or spice at all wanted me to pick a dining option for them, neither would be on my list, which would sadden me because they are both so very good.

Thanks for that very straight and honest answer, much appreciated. As you can tell from my post, I had my doubts and it was the view of the animals whilst you eat that initially attracted me to it. We've already reservations for breakfast at The Crystal Palace and also the Sci-fi before fantasmic but was just thinking of one more in park addition. Might go for the old trustworthy Rose and Crown. That's right, fly all the way from England and then pay through the nose to eat English food :banghead:

Sanaa is the only restaurant with savanna views; Boma and Jiko are near the pool.

Yeh, no animal views at BOMA or Jiko. Sanaa is lower level of AKL Kidani with big glass windows where you look right out at the savanna.
Might I offer a suggestion? At AKL Jambo they offer a tour of the restaurants. You get to go in BOMA and Jiko before they open, see the place and when we did it awhile back, there was soup and Zebra Dome samples at BOMA and breads and dips samples at Jiko. Plus you can then explore the grounds and lobbies on your own and there are several public viewing areas to see the animals and talk with cast members, who are very informative. We did this tour a couple of years ago and there was no charge and you did not even have to be staying there to be included, just show up at the appointed time. Might be worth your time to check this out if it is something they still do. Also, if you would like some basic, good old American food, Trail's End at Fort Wilderness is very good and lots of food. Can't leave there hungry if you tried.

Thanks guys, great ideas and will look into that. It's very much appreciated

My DH is not a particular fan of either:( But I love him anyway!!! So, he is willing to go for me, but I am willing to eat in any of the other hundreds of restaurants on site. Ergo I make the ADRs, and we go to neither. (He is a fan of the Zebra Domes, but the last time we went to the dessert party they were on the menu, so he was quite happy! The point is, he's kind of a picky eater as well.

While we are not picky eaters, we have eaten at Sanaa and Boma. We were not impressed with Boma...didn't think it was worth the price nor was anything particularly interesting to me, but Sanaa...AMAZING! Yes, the animal views are nice too, but the food is so much more exciting and it doesn't hurt the wallet nearly as much.

How about the breakfast buffet at Boma? There is quite a mix of food from pastries to eggs to mickey waffles. If you like you can try the more adventurous African dishes, but there would be lots for your wife to choose from. After you eat you can go outside and have a peek at the animals. :)

From memory there are options at the Boma buffet that should satisfy the picky palate - it won't have the same views as Sanaa, but there are lots of places to observe the animals around the lodge - just remember to factor in extra time for viewing.

Having done both fairly recently, Sanaa and its bread service is nice, but Boma's dinner selections are far more impressive and diverse.
Boma would be my pick, hands-down.
Sanaa is more like a moderately-nice Indian restaurant, and with bread service and drinks there's no way you're getting out of there under $20 per person.

As for views of the animals, I don't feel like it should be that big of a selling point. You'll have more fun and see more animals if you explore the grounds around the Jambo house lobby and the trails around the pool.

Boma is easily my favorite buffet at WDW. Some of the dishes are a *little* spicy/ethnic, but it's not as though all of the dishes are. Perhaps 10%.

Boma has great soups, bone-in chicken, salmon, prime rib, hummus. They also have a "kid" section, where you'll find mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, etc. I'd say there is something there for everyone. Do be scared!

Also, the desserts there and WONDERFUL. Two words: Zebra Domes. :-)
