Body Wars vs. Star Tours

I used to think that since Body Wars is so much more mondane than Star Tours, it must be the older ride. Is it true that Star Tours actually came first? Then were these rides cutting-edge when they first opened?

Star Tours opened in 1987 at Disneyland. It was considered TOTALLY cutting edge at the time. I know that Body Wars and Star Tours (at MGM) both opened after 1987, but I can't recall which of those opened first. I guess it would be easy to look up, but I'm feeling lazy tonight. Anyway, I remember DL's Star Tours opening like it was yesterday. It was making headlines and it was really "wow"-ing people. I also remember that in virtually no time, motion simulator rides starting popping up at other theme parks and then you started seeing them in arcades and stuff. It seemed like it went from being cutting edge technology to yesterday's news really quickly.

I am pretty sure Star Tours opened first. But both rides still feature really amazing technology. Like that fact that both of them can be hosed off if anybody pukes!:hurl:

seriously though, I think both are good rides but I used to be a such a starwars loon that I still have a soft spot for star tours.

Body wars is a fun ride as well, both should not be missed by anybody who dosn't get sick at the drop of a hat. there great rides.

I believe both opened around the same time period. I personally prefer the Body Wars ride but I prefer the Star Tours queue. I really prefer BW only because I had fun and was educated at the same time (which up until then, I thought was impossible) :)

Adding Variety to Star Tours...

How difficult would it be to change the "destination" of Star Tours from time to time? Other theme parks (Camp Snoopy, for instance), change the movie in their motion simulator theaters occasionally.

Star Tours (which I remember as breathtaking when it first opened and I was in my teens) has become dull and repetitious. Programming two or three other adventures to different Star Wars galaxy locations into the motion simulator would add variety and life to an aging attraction. Any engineers out there who could tell us how difficult that might be?

Hey, I'm an engineer! I don't think the problem is difficulty in reprogramming the ride. I think, like most things in life, it is an issue of money. You say the ride is repitious. Like me, you have probably been on it 100 times. I imagine most people going on it have never been on it. Disney has to decide whether or not it is worth it to invest more money it, i.e. will more people want to come to their parks and ride it.

As for reprogramming it, they would have to film a new movie and then some engineers would have to sit in the ride over and over again watching the movie and programming the simulator to move and turn in conjunction with the movie. My guess is this would only need to be done on one simulator and could easily be dumped into the computers on the other 5(?) simulators. If Disney ever hired me as an Imagineer, I'd be happy to sit in the ride over and over again :)

I work part time at a local attraction that has some of the new flight simulator(max-flight) technology and a Morphous 3-d Simulator, it quite easy to change a film takes about 2 hours to upload a new film, just a little pricey, we also have cheesy 4-d movie about a bombing run over germany those on the other hand tend to be a little harder to change. The place i work at is called the air zoo and has the only remaning sr-71b feel free to check it out at www.airzoo.org

Well Body Wars opened up on 10/19/89 and since Star Tours opened up AFTER MGM opened up, I would have to say that Body Wars opened up earlier.

I still enjoy both rides, even though they may be dated now, though I've not been on Mission:SPACE yet. Unlike some, neither have ever made me feel ill either.

The last time I rode Star Tours it made me ill for the first time. I know memory can play tricks, but I usually have an iron stomach for rides and don't ever remember it being as jerky and unpleasant as the last time. I still love Star Wars and that's the reason I continue to ride - but with NextGen rides like Spiderman out there, this one is really, really due for a revamp.

They both suck :hurl: They really need to do something with them, because as of now I pass them when I visit the world. I hate them... Down with Body Wars and Star Tours! :fork: :fork:

Wow...that's a little extreeme. I still continue to enjoy Star Tours, even though it no longer "blows my mind" like it once did. However, I rode Body Wars during my last trip and found it to be far too jerky for my tastes and a little more dated than Star Tours.
