Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story

The character is interesting, served his purpose in the OT, but I never saw fit the need to give him an entire standalone movie.
The overall sentiment is the movie just isn't needed, very much like Solo. I do think that the plan for a Fett movie was to be tied to Solo, so when that underperformed as much as it did, the Fett movie didn't have a chance.
If they're doing a whole live action TV/Streaming series about Mandalor, then a Boba Fett movie is just overkill.
Agreed. If they really want to, they could bring Boba into this series very easily. Maybe the Mandalorian has Bobas armor or it's like the dread pirate Roberts scenario from the princess bride. I do think Boba will tie into this series. It would be a smart move. People get their Mandalorian fix while adding to Bobas legend, all while getting something new. Win win win.

Well...I surely do hope that they have something consistent/overall in mind regarding the entire franchise.

But...they do seem rudderless. That’s the management thing again.

But since I’m embracing peace and love in spite of out and out hated being displayed in the last few days in my country...I want to ask the more optimistic fans:

“What do you want them to do for the next 5 years”? I’m stumped...my first inkling is to go “Star Trek” and go hard at tv....but I’m not sure if you do that you can really cross back into big box office. Too many moving parts.

I'm betting "The Mandalorian" will be decent as Jon Favreau has a pretty good track record AND Ruin Johnson has nothing to do with it.
Also, this show is about a bounty hunter, it's not about Boba Fett. And at this point I am totally convinced that KK has no idea what she's doing at LFL.

What they should have done...

  • Continue only with episodic films.
  • Slow down with the whole wrapping up of the Skywalker clan early. We needed another Luke movie before you unceremoniously killed him off. We lost Carrie and I realize that has changed plans but rushing Luke's exit and pushing us into yet another generation (the kid at the end) seems a bit too fast.
  • Also slow down the development of Rey and Finn. Sure Kylo/Ben is an ace but he had Luke to train him extensively and he's a Skywalker. The other two are starting to look more and more like Mary Sues'
  • Create the special one-off films after you completely wrap up the Skywalker story. Rogue One was nice but we didn't need that now. Bottom line, focus on the main story and then bring in the other things that fall out of timeline or don't need the core actors later. We didn't need Solo at this point either and Boba Fett, sure but later.
  • Bring the Original Trilogy back into theaters (the original print!!!)
  • Bring the Prequel Trilogy back into theaters or better yet, just a double bill of Episode III and IV
  • Now, do Rogue One
  • Now do, Solo, Obiwan and Fett movies
  • Now do what you're going to do. We know you're going to do this. It pains me to say it. Reboot the whole darn thing!

Well, I think the best they can do is leave the current time line. The old republic would be a good place to be. If I had to guess, I think that is where B&W are going. This way you can basically start over and not worry about stepping on the original movies. That way you can take more of the Marvel type approach. You have all sorts of inspiration with the "legends" books, comics, video games... to pull from, just like what the MCU did. Cherry pick the best stuff, adapt it to fit the vision. The only issue is I'm really not sure Lucasfilm has someone on the payroll who can handle that.

Yes. I agree.

I'd love to see more of this...

But I have my doubts that something like this will ever see the light of day.

Yea, Disney/Lucasfilm do not have confidence that they do something without OG trilogy ties and it be successful. It's funny because I feel like a dang broken record with "well Marvel does..." But Marvel was able to have audiences buy into a talking racoon and a bunch of characters that maybe 12 people in the general audience had heard of. Why? Because they had people invested in the universe and they made a really good movie. What should have happened in EP8? Luke should have been not in hiding but in search of ancient wisdom. They could have used the island time to plant the seeds about the old republic. Last Marvel reference I promise, but they are doing an eternals movie. Most have no idea who they are but Marvel has already laid the groundwork so the transition will be easy for the general movie goer and they don't even really know it. Lucasfilm has done no such thing so if they go the KOTOR route, a lot of people will go in blind. I doubt this is happening, but if they can tie 9 into the old republic, you have a stepping off point. But that's just my inner fanboy talking unfortunately.

So we have a broken down main story line...cancellation of most everything else...and clamoring for prequel type stuff....

😳

And because Star Wars fans just HAD to have more Star Wars movies, we also have:

1. Han and Leia's relationship? It's over. They broke up. Yay.

2. Han gets killed.

3. Luke is now a miserable teat-sucking intergalactic hobo.

4. The happy ending of Return of the Jedi? Yeah, forget that. It's all a dark dystopian joy-killing mess now.

5. Plus hyper-achieving Mary Sue that nobody wanted, and a whiny bad guy without Vader's elegance and menace.

Sometimes fans are not the saviors of franchises...they're the death of them.

Because no “fans” have actually been involved in the making of those movies...except maybe Gareth Edwards.

That is the Hollywood money machine...attempting to guarantee money across demographics instead of relying on the quality of the movie to deliver the money.

Kennedy and Abrams are absolutely 1 and 1A on that indictment list.

Well, I don't think old republic would be "prequel stuff." Sure technically it is a prequel, but going back 4000 years is far enough removed you don't have to worry about what's been done. Old republic gives you the opportunity to in a sense, start over. You can get back to letting people create without constraints. I want more star wars and KOTOR just feels like the best way to semi reboot things without undoing anything.

Granted...I get what you’re saying..

But the problem is that you are really starting over...because there will be a large segment of Star Wars fandom that won’t be happy they basically nuked the skywalker story and gave up. That isn’t a huge segment now (but much larger than Disney defenders are willing to admit)...but I’m fairly sure (pcq 2.456%) that it will grow over the next 10+ years.

People forget that prequel backlash grew...quite substantially...after the dust settled. How do we know? George hammered it every chance he got through the sale to Disney. Ungrateful brats 😉

A GOT medieval style take could definitely work...Maybe - gasp - not SA or romper room?

I’d love that. Gotta get this thing out of a dive...make no mistake it’s in one.
