Boatwright's Jambalaya

Hello everyone,
I am a big fan of Zataran's Jambalaya mix, and we eat it about once every two weeks. I was just wondering if Boatwright's will be an accurate representation of what Jambalaya is really supposed to be. I am completely excited about it, but I am from IL, and really don't know if what I have been eating is anything like the real thing.

Also, I have read a little about PO:FQ's beignets. God, I love WDW food...

Jambalaya and Beignets

As a native New Orleans boy....Zat's is good...but...its quick Jambalaya...its easy Jambalaya...its kinda like using Ragu and trying to pass it off as the best Italian food.

Don't get me wrong Zat's Jambalaya is great...I eat it too...but if you want really good stuff...you have to have a New Orleans person make it well.

Beignets...the best are Cafe du Monde here in New Orleans...followed by Morning Call...another local place...

Now why did I say this? Who knows! I am so sad about what the hurricane did...that I was just thrilled to see someone say something about things I knew about.

Let me just say this...Boatwrights is terrific...when I was there...the food was GOOD. I think they will make a pretty good representation of true Jambalaya and true Beignets. They won't be exactly like New Orleans...but I have to say....as a Disney nut...I do agree that Boatwright's is a taste of home when I am staying at POR or French Quarter.

While you are eating at Boatwright's think about the home of all of that good food....we are hurting around here...all the good thoughts of good people...knowing that you are behind us will help so much.

Not only New Orleans people can make good jambalaya. You forgot about the people to your west (aka The Cajuns).

we absolutely love NOLA and are very upset over what has happened. we also can't wait to go back. now back to the topic. we were afraid to try the beignets, but alex is adventurous and to our surprise they weren't that bad, they are not cafe du monde, but no one is. i would assume that the jamabalaya would also be good. we love zat's too by the way

Sorry spectroman

I am sorry spectroman...I needed to be more clear...yes, Jambalaya is made by cajuns as well...and pretty decently I might add. However, I would argue that Jambalaya's heavy spanish influence is a direct result of it being from New Orleans. Thus the best Jambalaya would have to be in New Orleans.

That being said....Jambalaya is Jambalaya...and as long as you are in South Louisiana...I'd go ahead and chalk that up to some GOOD EATING.

Shmmrname,

Try the Jambalaya & the beignets. I haven't had the Jambalya, but the beignets at POFQ are as good as I've had at Cafe du Monde or anywhere else in NO. If you like the Zat's, I'm sure you'll love it Boatwright.

Oh, let me make it clear... I was gonna eat both anyways, a HUGE part of WDW for me is the food/dining.
I say it over and over, I worry when I'm buying a t-shirt or a souvenir. I keep thinking is it really worth it? But, if I am at a restaurant, I want to eat without worries on my vacation.

Sorry again, but I didn't want to start yet another new thread. Does anyone know how the foodcourt at POFQ compares to CSR and CBR? We loved the 'freshness' of CSR's but thought we paid more for it, and CBR had too limited of choices at times, but was still better than the Value Resorts' options...

God, my posts make me sound like I am an offensive lineman. Ha, Ha, I was in highschool, but for the record I'm just over 6' and 180-200, depending on if I'm on vacation or not...

Remember Bonfamilies(SP?)? The resturant they used to have at Port Orleans? The blackened prime rib was out of the this world! Another one of my favorite resturants that have gone extinct.
Bonfamiles
The Firework Factory
The Charcter Breakfast at Hollywood and Vine
Akerhaus?

They do have hot sauce on the table but I don't know what type. I can picture the bottle but not the name. It has a wood cap and has a woman on it.

If you like spicy they make a great Bauyou Bloody Mary... :slurp:

The Jambalaya verdict is in, and it wasn't that good. Though we ate many, many memorable meals this trip, Jambalaya was not one of them. I do recommend the restaurant; however, as other items looked quite tasty.

We hated the jambalya!! It was mostly rice- no"extras" and very spicy. Now we like spicy- but this was un-eatable!! Never again.

Did you have it this year?

I had it this past July and the portion was smaller and it wasn't as good

the years before...it was my favorite.

They must have changed chefs...

I wouldn't think that I would like it; I don't eat fried seafood out of this area either. Try the Zatarains Cheesy Jambalaya too! I made some last week with fresh shrimp, and it's good with chicken and andoullie. Also, if you want to try a pretty good gumbo mix; try Mam Papauls.

Muffalettas

All this talk of beignets and Jambalaya makes me realllly miss New Orleans....

All my life I had dreamed of going to New Orleans and eating beignets at Cafe du Monde and getting a muffaletta from Central Grocery... I finally made it to Mardi Gras last year. But the lines were horrendous for Cafe du Monde, so I did not get beignets. I hiked all the way cross town thru the Mardi Gras crowds and finally purchased a muffaletta at Central Grocery... but it was all for naught when it got smashed by a huge garbage truck when it fell out of the bottom of the bag as I was running across the street.... :( .... heartbreaking... truly heartbreaking.

Anyway, I will be at Port Orleans in March (1st Disney trip! :animwink:) and I would like to know if they have Muffalettas? I can't wait for the beignets, although I know it won't be the same ....

They have them at Port Orleans French Qtr. I can't compare it to any other though as it was the only time I have ever had one. I liked it but it nothing spectacular.

Personally, I loved the Jambalaya at Boatwrights. I have made spicier Jambalaya at home, but the spice level for Boatwrights I felt was just right. When I got it, it had plenty besides just the rice in it, so it might just depend on who's making it that night. I would recommend it based on the times I have had it. House of Blues over at DTD also has some great Jambalaya in case you find yourself over there as well.

The Jambalaya at Boatwrights has always been good...nice portion. But last year...it had more rice then anything...it it was about half the portion. I swear it was in a salad bowl.

I'm almost afraid to try it again.
