Yes there is a difference. I think water view can also give you a view of the pool and not always crescent lake. The path you're talking about is in the back, along the canal, past the Swan and Dolphin and to the studios.
It's easier to take the boat than walk to studios, though.

i didn't mind walking from the bwi to dhs in the daytime (other than it was MORE walking, we did the boat and it stops a bunch of times before the bwi so it seemed to take forever and it was cold). my biggest complaint about the walk was when my sister and i stayed there in dec 09 i didn't feel comfortable walking back on that path to the resort at night. it felt to exposed to trouble. it's isolated, lighting is so-so, and there's a convenient store across the street from the entrance of the resort so to me i felt like i had to be extra careful and walking the path from dhs didn't make me comfortable after dark.

If the weather is nice I would lean towards walking to the Studios rather than waiting and riding the boat.

and there is a little sidewalk that shoots off and takes you to the front of the resort by the convenient store or the main sidewalk takes you to the resort itself.

If you get on the boat and are heading to Boardwalk, it's often fastest to get off at the first stop (Swan & Dolphin) and walk over to the Boardwalk. You'll beat the boat there pretty much every time because it has to go to Yacht & Beach first.

As for which is faster, walking is usually fastest, and is what I do unless a) the weather sucks (either rain or mega heat), b) I'm in no hurry at all, or c) the boat is already at the Studios dock, in which case it's about the same time as walking.
