Black Cauldron Live

With Disney giving many of their animated films the live action treatment now, it made me wonder, half joking but also half-seriously, that since Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and other such gothic/fantasy properties are so huge, would they ever consider doing that with Black Cauldron? It'd be a way to finally make some money off the property (assuming it doesn't also bomb in live action). Thoughts?

Gotta do it right and do the whole series then. It could be a success, I guess. Prydain was the Harry Potter of my generation. With the Harry Potter movies done, maybe there is space in the market for a fantasy series starring kids.

Great idea...and yes, if done right it could be a success today with all the interest in fantasy adventure films.

With today's effects capabilities, there is no excuse we cannot see a visually stunning epic.
With a good script treatment it could be something special.

It would be nothing short of awesome to see a live action Horned King and Creeper kick some proverbial butt on screen!

First, Disney would have to re-obtain the film rights for a new production. Second, they'd need to overlook the stigma of the original. Not many people went to see the first, why would they go see a remake? Hollywood likes to copy successes, not failures.

I honestly would blame mostly the othe films that were released the same week as Black Cauldron. You had National Lampoons European Vacation and Pee Wee Hermans Big Adventure! That's what everyone went to go see. It sucks when a cool movie gets buried by a bad release date, when it probably would have done better at a different date...

I say welcome a new movie that's live action! It would be cool!

If not many people saw it, why would the "stigma" be an issue?

A live-action Prydain series would have little to do with the animated feature beyond using the same source material. The cartoon Lord of the Rings from the 70s didn't harm the box office of Peter Jackson's films.

I believe the PG rating for a Disney animated kids movie has been cited as a cause of its failure. It's a different world now. Frozen is PG (I don't know why).

Well, of those who did see it, many rank it as one of the weakest animated features from WDAS. I like it, but I can understand why many don't.

I think there's been changes to the rating systems. Of the films released since 2000, most have been PG. I think Home on the Range, Chicken Little, and Winnie the Pooh are the only ones with G ratings.

Are you sure Disney no longer has the rights?
