I finally decided I want to use BitTorrent, but first I have a few questions, I hope everyone can answer them. thanks

Where do I get BitTorrent?
How do I use it?
Is it spyware free?
Do I have to share files?

I also heard Invision (mirc plug-in) contained some sort or virus, trojan thing, is this true, if so what can I use instead of invision

You can get modified clients from here:

How do I use it?
You install it... run it ... click on the torrent files..and download (if you have a router it get's a bit more complicated)

Is it spyware free?

the client's from above are

Do I have to share files?
yes .. that's what the system is based on .. sharing .. but you can limit the bandwidth from your side, if you don't like to share use the IRC channel .. there you won't have to share.. just download

I also heard Invision (mirc plug-in) contained some sort or virus, trojan thing, is this true, if so what can I use instead of invision

I use innvision but never had any kind of trojan in my system (checked by norton,free-av and mc afee)

as an alternative you could use sysreset instead .. I never used it .. but some in the channel do

This is one file in the Invision package that will cause a false (at least I have heard it is false) alarm with Norton A/V. I have had that happen to me twice. I can't think of the name of the file. From what I have read, the file use to be associated with a trojan.

I have had good and bad experiences with mIRC. For a while, Invision would lock up my PC durning downloads. Tried sysrest and seemed ok. Just not all the cools colors and sounds as Invision. Then I switched to BT and will say it is by far better. Might not have all the content as #DC but just give it time. And no more waiting in queues. Just download the torrent and wait until it downloads.

btw, I do use both #DC and BT. Just without invision.

just my $.02.99999

FYI
An update on the never-ending struggle between file sharing and the MPAA and RIAA... Today, US Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter said, "One who distributes a device with the object of promoting its use to infringe copyright ... is liable for the resulting acts of infringement by third parties using the device, regardless of the device's lawful uses"
Thanks... :)

if thats the case .. we should all unplug our computers .. cause the theoretical chance is given that they could be possibly used to download illegal content (whatever the mpaa or riaa got to do with our videos :dazzle: )

or at least unistall the webbrowsers(cause they could display BAD pages) ...fast folks :slurp:

There's a fine line between having your program deemed as "Promoting infringement" and just a sharing device. Basically, if you never, ever udder anything related to stealing, they won't do anything. The guy who created BitTorrent never did that, so he never got into trouble. But then they found something from a long time ago, and he was joking arond saying you could, and now the RIAA and MPAA wants his head. You can heard more about the story on This Week in Tech Episode 12 .

Ok...locking the topic but leaving it open (minus some links)..

Basically i see it like this (and im very educated in this matter)

Torrents themselves are not illegal, however the content of some torrents ARE. In fact, I can almost assure you that any disney related content you obtain via bittorrent is being distributed illegally. SO...

No more bittorrent discussions unless its to a LEGAL torrent (such as a podcast)..and I think its safer to recap a general rule that applies to most forums...if the software is questionable..NO LINKING TO IT. If they want to find it..they can google it.
