Birthdays at Disney...?

I've celebrated more birthdays than I can count at the parks and I wouldn't want to spend my birthday anywhere else. I've also celebrated plenty of friends' birthdays there too. Typically, we tell them when we book the room & again when we check-in. They usually give you a birthday button as soon as you check-in that they write your name on. Pretty much every cast member you pass from that point on will make sure to wish you a happy birthday, some will even go above and beyond and call Goofy up to relay a birthday message, or have all the cast members in sight gather around to sing to you. Or, give you free things. I've gotten stickers, cupcakes, cookies, fastpasses, ice cream bars, and Mickey shaped silly straws over the years. Those things aren't guaranteed, it all depends on the cast members you're encountering, but the cupcake is pretty standard at most quick service (and all full service) restaurants. At full service restaurants it even comes out with a candle in it so you can make a wish! :)
You're also bound to get more attention from characters if it's your birthday too. They usually acknowledge that it's your birthday right away and if you're using an autograph book they'll sometimes leave a special birthday message in your book!
As far as your resort goes, you'll probably also get a card with a photo of a character (they used to ask your favorite character and that would be who the photo was of, but the past few times it's consistently been Mickey and they haven't asked who my favorite was. Not sure if I just had cast members who didn't take the time to check, or if they're only doing Mickey now.) with a balloon or two tied to it.

It's such a magical adventure having a birthday at the parks and your son will never forget it. I still remember having my third birthday at Chef Mickey's for breakfast and I'm 21 now. The memories stick with you for a loooong time.

I hope you have wonderful trip and that your son has a fantastic birthday! :)

I hope your little guy has a wonderful bday at Disney!

We have celebrated several bdays and a few anniversaries too at WD. Besides the things already mentioned, we had the Disney Floral Dept leave birthday gifts from Mickey and his friends in our room for my kiddo. It was pricey, but she loved it. At the time, there were a couple of different packages. She was turning 5 when we did it. She is 10 now and still talks about it.

Hope you have a magical trip!

Thank you all for the great replies!! I especially need the well-wishes and happy thoughts this morning.
Can't wait to get the birthday card and hopefully a balloon. I don't suppose they are the mickey head balloons? I remember those were $5 in '92; then $20 or $25 in '09!! Holy Moly! But I'm going to have to get one for my baby, it is a birthday trip after all; and what's a birthday without the best balloon in the World (pun intended)?!!

Actually, I was happily surprised when I walked up to the lobby and told them it was my son's birthday the following morning. He got a character call from Goofy wishing him a happy birthday. Unfortunately, we missed it as we had already left for the parks. When we returned to our room that afternoon, they left a balloon bouquet for him, a card signed by the main characters, and a photo of the main characters. It was a very nice surprise. All just from asking so you never know what they may have. Oh, he also got a birthday pin, his second one as he received one in MK too. He and his brothers also received pirate swords and eye patches when I cam to the lobby as well. Girls received magic wands.

We have been very "lucky" at restaurants and haven't had to pay for the extra birthday treatment. At HoopDeeDoo, the cast members made a huge deal out of my twin sons' 4th birthday! The waitress brought out our dessert with a candles and a nice note, plus the cast sang happy birthday ( and we were seated in category 3 up in the balcony!). At Shutters at Caribbean Beach Resort, our waitress brought out a cake with a candle and some extra leis to sing Happy Birthday to my Mom ( age 70). They treated her like a queen. So... magical things can and do happen! ENJOY!:joyfull:

They actually messed up at a the poly character breakfast when I went with a few of my friends for graduation and they thought it was a birthday! I informed them it wasn't actually my birthday and they CM goes "Well, Happy Unbirthday to you then!" I really liked that quick thinking and that she let me celebrate the day anyway. I got a signed card and cupcakes for me and my friends. Disney is so wonderfully accommodating in times like these. It is definitely worth mentioning to them that you're celebrating! A few years back it was my little brothers birthday and I believe you have to set it up, but you can have it so Mickey & Friends leave a phone message for your child! It was really neat and his face upon hearing the message was priceless. We must've listened to the message 10 times. I hope you have a great time on your trip and your child enjoys whatever you decide to go with :)

No problem! :) And my next trip is in July for my boyfriend's 21st birthday (but he doesn't know that we're going yet). It should be a ton of fun :)

I love the sound of the Jello and fruit! But you're right, you don't think of it, but lots of people are celebrating something at Disney.
When we were there in 2009 it was my husband's first trip and they gave him a button for that but he didn't wear it, now I wonder what kind of magic he missed.

You really don't get much for free. You can get a birthday button at the resort or parks and if you have a character meal, you will get a free cupcake and a birthday card. There may be occaissional exception, but not many.

I celebrated my 29th Birthday at WDW at got a cupcake following my dinner at CRT and a birhtday card from Mickey (with balloons but no idea if my DH paid for those) back in the hotel room. That was all I was expecting for free and it was great.

The button badge also made sure I got lots of birthday wishes from both CMs and guests. But the biggest surprise was actually a really small thing, I was wearing the birthday badge and went to buy a bottle of Diet Coke from a cart in Frontierland, when I went to pay the CM told me that Mickey had heard it was my birthday and this drink was on him! That one moment left me smiling all morning!

I agree it's the little things that matter! I think the thing I'm most anticipating is the birthday card because that's a scrapbook item that will be posted next to pictures and he'll get to see that for the rest of his life.

A birthday card from Mickey is no longer a given, even when the birthday is noted on the reservation. Just don't want you to get your hopes too high in case it doesn't happen.

I appreciate that, I understand there are no guarantees. If they don't leave one I can buy one and have the characters we meet sign it. It'll be just as fun. Character meets are a must this trip, it's something I never took the time to do on any other trip. I never cared for the autograph books either, but having them sign a birthday card means more to me.

I think that my DH did arrange something with the check-in CM so I don't know if he asked for balloons and card etc. I only assume something was done as the other check-in CM distracted me by measuring my height in Mickey stickers, 6ft of stickers is a LOT!

On one of my daughter's birthdays, we used the Disney Florist / Gift Service to have a present put in her room while we were at the parks. It was a set of kitchen utensils in a holder that looked like Mickey's shorts and shoes.
It was kind of expensive, but worth it. That morning she did get a cupcake at Birthday Card during breakfast at the Royal Table. This may have been about 5 years ago.

If you celebrated a birthday at Disney I'd love to know what they did for you. I'm reading that you can let them know in advance but that you don't have to, you can also simply let them know once you arrive that you have a birthday guest.

We're going to be there this year for my son's 2nd Birthday. We'll dine at Cinderella's Table. The people on Chat gave me a number to call to discuss cakes. I assume there is a cost for special cakes. He's only going to be 2 and there will only be two adults, we don't need a large cake to carry around the park. Something small enough for him will do.

Please share your Disney Birthday Dining experience (regardless of which Disney restaurant)!!
Thank you

Tell them at all your dining reservations that you are celebrating a birthday and wear the birthday pin. At every restaurant that we went to they gave my daughter a free birthday cupcake and at some of them they gave her a birthday card signed by some of the characters. They even gave her a cupcake for breakfast at Chef Mickeys at 8am
