Birthday Surprise Trip

We are planning a surprise trip to WDW in early January 2015 for our youngest daughters fifth birthday (our oldest will be turning 16 a week and a half later so its kind of a surprise for her too). I have a few questions.
1. I am planning to be in MK on her birthday which is Jan. 6th. Ive read on Disney site about a birthday package for about $200 or so which includes goodies from each of Mickey's friends. Any suggestions on ways to celebrate her fifth birthday while at WDW?
2. Does anyone know how congested WDW will be around the beginning of January?
Thank you for your suggestions. I love surprises and especially enjoy surprising our girls. :)

Welcome!

I'm not familiar with the official birthday package, so I'll leave that to someone else to review.

Park congestion should be fairly low as long as you're not right on top of New Years week/weekend. Since the 6th is a Tuesday, I think most of the holiday crowds will have cleared out. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong!) January weather is nice but bring sweaters for the evenings.

If your youngest likes princess stuff, she might enjoy a "makeover" at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique inside the castle. Your oldest might appreciate some resort spa time, the grown-up equivalent, if you're looking to splurge. Since you're planning so far ahead, you have plenty of time to research MK character breakfasts and near-MK specialties like the Grand Floridian tea time. I'm sure there are a million other suggestions but these are the ones off the top of my head. :)

Thank you for your suggestions. I will add those to our ever so long list of ideas. ;) Right now our youngest daughter is a in love with Mickey and Minnie and the whole gang plus Tinkerbell. My sister's girls are princess fans, and I know they are planning a trip soon as well so I will pass along the information about the boutique. I appreciate your help.

I am not sure the specific package. But I have ordered twice from the Disney Florist and one was a celebration package for my DH that was about $250 so I am assuming is similar to the one you are looking at. It had the birthday banner, the tinker bell in the corner, the footprints, an autograph book, a signed picture, a popcorn bucket filled with rice cripies which spelled out something I can't remember. There was also the large mickey hands and a large mickey. My DH and I loved it. He was totally surprised! They have other packages too if you go to disneyflorist.com. They have more girly ones too. :) As for the time of year, they will be lower crowds. :)

You can always work with Disney World Personal shoppers to buy stuff ahead of time and either ship it to you as a "We are going to Disney World!" gift or they can deliver it to your hotel for their actual birthdays. As a mom to a soon to be 5 year old, be careful how much you buy in advance because they tend to change their faves fairly often. At your daughter's age, my daughter's faves were Mickey and the crew. Now she is Princess OBSESSED. So do the research and footwork now, save your money based upon what her likes are and be flexible with the actual planning. :)

The birthday buttons...where or who do we contact about them?
How do we get in touch with the personal shoppers...do we get to choose the items thatare sent to our room if we choose this option?

Make sure all the birthday kids get a birthday button!

Custom cake would be cool. They used to sell birthday hats or ears maybe they would like those.

There are several to choose from but I can send you the link to the one I use. You can choose the items...she goes shopping in the World several times a week and posts pictures of items available for sale.

She also does live outlet runs about once a month where you can get some great items for really cheap. :)
Jessica, thank you for this information. We don't live near a Disney Store so we always order things online. This would be a great way to shop for Christmas and birthday. I appreciate this information.
