Birthday Cake Question?

Hi all! I'll be visiting the world in May and will be celebrating a birthday on our trip. We are staying at ASM and I know the cake options there are limited. My question is, is there any way to order a custom fondant cake from one of the onsite bakeries and have it delivered? I know that since ASM doesn't offer private dining the answer is probably no. If that's the case, can I order a cake from a different resort, such as AKL and just pick it up there? Thanks in advance!

Give this number a jingle 407-827-2253...They can lead you in the right direction.

I'd like to know the answer too. A few years back we went with my parents and they were celebrating their anniversary. We booked dinner for them at Tony's in MK and ordered a cake. The cake was delivered to Tony's. i'm not sure if they will deliver it to anywhere besides a sit-down restaurant? Truth be told, I wouldn't mind having one delivered to my room and just eating it on the balcony :-)

I had a cake delivered to The Grand Floridian Cafe and the other to my brothers room. Both were "special" ocassion fondant themed cakes. This change so frequently that its best @piglet21 calls to get the 411.

Don't know what your plans are, but maybe set something up at a restaurant you might be eating at that night.

I ordered a cake through Disney. Not a fondant cake, although they were offered, but it was a specialty cake for my DH. It was delivered to California Grill. The cake was delicious!! And would totally do it again!

On your reservation, mention that you are celebrating a birthday. We did this one year for my son and when we came back to the room on the first day, there was a chocolate Mickey in the room.

OK...if you want a fancy fondant covered cake, your best bet is to follow Carrie Lurkyloo's instructions on here...

http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/

Your best bets for a fondant covered cake from a Disney bakery are private dining at the Contemporary, the GF, BW Bakery, and AKL (although not quite as popular for all of this and usually have more limited options). The GF bakery covers the GF & Poly + their respective restaurants, the Contemporary covers the Contempory, WL, their respective restaurants, and any of the MK TS spots that permit such cakes, BW covers the Disney Epcot area resorts and some of the Epcot TS spots, and AKL covers AKL. BW 'may' let you pick up your cake...but all of the others require delivery to their covered area. Any of the cakes outside of these resorts are usually the frozen pre-made cakes equivalent to podium cakes you can add on to any TS meal.

Anything beyond that and you might want to consider one of the non-Disney bakeries for a fondant cake. Sprinkles is the one that gets the most buzz, but there are a few others that have positive reviews from Disney fans. The name of this other one is escaping me at the moment.

I've ordered 2 fancy cakes through the CR and helped a friend with her cake through the GF for dinner @ the Poly...so let me know if you need any tips.

I called the following number (407) 827-2253 and told them what I wanted and where I wanted it and it was ready when we got there. The cast member brought it out for dessert and packed it up for us too.

So we hacked into the poor thing before we took a picture. This was the personalized cake - vanilla cream and fresh strawberries inside with vanilla cake. So yummy. This was a fairly cheap option considering what all they can do. They can do so much more. :)

Hi all! Thanks for the great advice! I called the cake hotline and the CM I spoke to said my best bet would be to order a cake through the Contemporary and have it delivered to our dinner in MK so that's what I'll probably end up doing!

The Contemporary's crew does a wonderful job with their cakes. I really like working with Chef Brian over there and feel he's done a great job on the fancy cakes he's done for us. A tip though...have a detailed plan in mind for your cake (a jpeg file sketch would be even better). When you call the Contemporary, you can ask for Chef Brian's email and you can email him your cake plans. He can then tell you in reply what they can/can't do and give you a quote. Once you get that quote, you can call the Contemporary again to place your order. I often like to name my cake ideas so they can match the phone call to the email. I know it sounds like a lot of trouble, but all of the Disney bakeries have a habit of oversimplifying the cake if you don't approach them with lots of ideas and details.

They also only need 48 hours in most cases to do a cake and it's advised to not put your order in too much more than 2 weeks in advance. So, if you're going in May...you have some time to work up the details before getting with the chef and putting in your order. :)
